I sold my beloved camera today. I have had it for just over a year and learned a huge amount.
This is for the One night stand - Architecture, and Lensbaby month. I liked the shapes.
@hwhittle77 I got a really good deal - only $50 less than I bought it for new a year ago (plus 4 hours of my time teaching). Such a great camera, I miss it already. Thinking about upgrading.......if I am allowed.
@hwhittle77 Fair enough.....down to the shops tomorrow. Thanks for the permission. However I am not sure the boss will be happy...Thanks for the kind compliments. @thistle Thank you for your kindness.
This is fabulous, love those shapes. You've sold your camera? What are you doing? Get down to the shops now, I'm with @hwhittle77 you are allowed, and completely deserve, an upgrade.
@spanner I do get the need for a break. I've found this year much easier as I'm not trying to take or post a photo every day and I've really cut back on the commenting I do. I'm going to need to cut back again in Sept as I'm hopefully starting a masters course. I think it's easy to forget that this is meant to be fun thing and not a chore and although I really like the commenting by others and the conversations, banter and advice I do sometimes feel obliged to spend more time on here than I might otherwise choose to do.
I teach my students that, when making a purchasing proposal to administration, they need to have a statement regarding ROI. If you were able to take thousands of pics, pass the love onto your children, and sell the camera for only $50 less than last year, you've made a terrific return on your investment. Might help with selling the notion of an upgrade! Just sayin'...great shot, too! ;)
Use the point n' shoot. That's all I use currently, economic restrictions. I have found ways to still create.
As for the comments about cutting back, taking a break:
I took almost a month break between Year 1 & 2. I think it invigorated my shooting, for which I'd grown a bit bored. Not bored with photography, so much, but bored with my environs- I'd seemingly shot EVERYTHING OF INTEREST near my home. After a short break, I'd discovered a whole new world embedded within the one with which I'd grown too accustomed.
@rachelwithey I have really struggled to keep up with posting and feel guilty about it, particularly when people are so giving on this site. I do not follow many people because of the time constraints and was determined to leave meaningful comments but am not doing very well. I am also repeating myself and need to move away from doing this on a daily basis. I am pleased with how I have learned but I am getting a little stale with my shots. I have been given permission to upgrade (hoorah) but now have to justify the expense. Upgrading seems daft if I am just doing the same stuff.
Thank you as ever for your feedback. What is your masters in?
@voiceprintz thank you. Permission has been granted but it sits heavy on my mind. Over 25,000 shots and hours of indulgence over the year all for $50. Bargain.
@jrambo001 thank you John. I am going to upgrade (permission has been granted). You have summed it up very well. I am boring myself with the images I am taking at the moment. A rest will do me good I think.
I've cut right back on my commenting and shooting as it was becoming all consuming and as I'm in my final year of a degree the time had to be distributed a bit differently than it had been. I still pop in from time to time and fav without commenting but I can't give up completely. I've found that the break has made me want to get out with the camera more so I tend to post several shots at once rather than one a day. Take a break but it would be a shame to see you go completely. For what it's worth I love this shot xx
@psychographer Thanks Lisa - I think I am going to take a break when I complete my 2nd year. I had 3 weeks off a month ago and really missed taking shots. I will probably go out today, blow a load of money on a new expensive camera and then feel guilty about not using it. So will be back posting in a couple of months.
Gosh Spanner. I am so in the same boat as you. You have hit the nail on the head. This is a fantastic project and the wealth of advice available is invaluable but the guilt I sometimes feel for not investing time or returning comments is awful. For example, I've just moved country (sold cars and practically a house full of stuff with two small poorly kids singlehandedly) and I'm mostly worried about falling behind in my project. it's nuts. I understand how things work a little better on here now and I'm fine with that that but I feel demoralised that my shots now get very few views. Makes me feel like I'm not improving anymore. I love taking photos but the fun was starting to go so I have eased up on myself a bit. I like the shots I take so I guess that's what matters most!
You know I love your work. I don't always get the time to post but that i really look forward to seeing your shots on my feed. You are very talented and you would be missed if you took a break but you do what you need to do. Maybe a break would give you the perspective you need but please promise to come back!
@trishaclancy Trisha, I have only just seen this comment and very much appreciate it indeed. As you can see I have not stopped taking shots. As I suspected I did go out and blow a load of cash, and am delighted I did. However I do need to take a break. I am not great with words and would love to write something warm, witty and meaningful. All I can say is thank you for making my evening, I really do appreciate what you have written. Hope all is well and that you are settling into your new home.

@thistle I am not sure. I might be giving up for a while.
