Piazza Isolo

This area, called Piazza Isolo, is just outside the city center of Verona on the other side of the river.
The street in the upper side of the photo is called "interrato dell'acqua morta" and in pre-Roman times this was the main branch of the river Adige. Before the foundation of the city the riverbed underwent a partial change and went to settle in the current position, while the oldest site survived as a secondary branch of the river. The city council decided to bury the channel following the disastrous flooding of Verona in 1882.
