How long it be before this cut down?

For many years there was a patch of shrubs close to our house, which the local Council failed to mantain adequately. 2 years ago they took them all out and spread grass seed. Now the shrubs were a mixed blessing, but would provide some shade in hot weather... so we are missing that protection currently. I snapped a picture of the largest self set bush that has appeared in this area.
