For the push this week from Newbank Lass @newbank, who challenged me to go and take a B&W architectural shot. I truly suck at these kind of shots and in particular B&W. It's a bit like watching colour tele for years and then having to watch an old B&W tv. Why??? Anyway, this old pub (Mentone Hotel) had some cool angles, heritage bits and more modern glassy bits. It was painted a lovely yellow hue and stood out against the beautiful blue sky on this particular day. I don't think my brain thinks in terms of B&W and what image would work for it and what doesn't so thanks to Newbank Lass for a truly challenging push ;-)
I'm with you Terrie - I don't like B&W at all.....but I'm trying with the fortnightly theme. I know that pub well.....just down the road from us. I think it is much prettier in colour!!!!
Oh that's a hard one, always opinionated but never know why I like things. It sort of creates a different mood, for me it makes it less busy so can focus me more, I think it can be more forgiving too sometimes. I do like a pop of colour though, but b&w just evokes a bit more emotion for me - not always, does depend on the photo.
Stunning image in black and white. Great detail without the distraction of colour. So good to know that an appreciation of real photography has survived the excesses of the digital age.
@debbie3108 Oh, thanks for that thoughtful explanation. I guess it really is a case of different strokes for different folks. I will try to be more open minded about it. It's funny how we know what we like or don't like but it can be harder to explain the reasons for it. Makes you stop and really think.
