This morning I had the misfortune to come across this sad picture - a dead mother bandicoot (already cold and stiff) and her little 9-10 week old joey, dead but still soft and flexible. The little female still had its tiny tail and back feet in the pouch but was lying in the position it is in here. We could find no visible reason for their death. It remains a mystery. However it did give us all a chance to have a close look at these little nocturnal animals that are usually only seen scampering across the road in the headlights of the car.
Awww - that is sad!! Maybe she'd just had a knock from a car? I've never heard of a bandicoot - they obviously lose out to your other marsupials on the PR front.
