I've had a busy day today. Personally and professionally, this week has been an eventful and sometimes hectic few days, and to be honest I can't wait for this week to be over. But I did come across this decaying old phone box today - the classic British red phone box - and I thought I'd take a photo.
Frankly I think this is a boring photo with nothing particularly redeeming, which is why I have heavily edited it. I made the background black and white and the phone box itself more vivid.
The last of these iconic phone boxes were issued in 1980. This was the year of my birth, and I do remember them from my childhood. The red phone box was designed and coloured as such to stand out, but outside of Central London they are now relatively rare. They were replaced by the more functional and bland design by British Telecom, and in the last decade or so the mobile phone has, by and large, rendered them purposeless. Isn't it interesting how technological innovation can significantly change our landscape?

This may seem boring to you, but we don't have those here and they are such a British icon. I can never see to many pictures of them. Great shot. Thanks for sharing.
I have vague memories of there being more of these red boxes than there are now, but they're only vague. I found one in a village in the Peak District the other day. I don't remember many time's I've used a pay phone though, apart from to shelter in the box while I use my mobile.
Like the photo though - you've made it far more interesting than it could have been.
This a great picture. You make the red stand out and yet still retain the shabbiness of it all. You might like to look at my picture 15 May of the box in our village.
Yours is lovely too! Great photographers think alike,, heehee. I think its interesting that a tiny town in Michigan has acquired a handful of these and have put them to use.
