I was at one with nature today. After lunch a couple of colleagues and I sat outside in the intermittent sunshine when a ladybird befriended my shirt. It took a long walk all over my hands, and soon after a caterpillar paid a visit to the bench where we sat. I put it in a plastic cup and took it to my desk for a few pictures.
It reminds me of the caterpillar from the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, which is one of the earliest books I can remember reading when I was a kid. This caterpillar kept me company all afternoon. I found it fascinating how it navigated itself, raising its front legs every now and then and waving its body to determine where to go next, as it is in today's picture. I put it back where I found it when I left work for the day, so no animals were harmed in the making of this photograph!
I had to crop this picture. I mentioned in yesterday's post that the photo of my mother was heavily cropped too, but I hadn't cropped any of my pictures for a good fortnight or so prior. I think it's important that I compose as well as I can as I take the photo. By not cropping I retain as much detail as I can, but more importantly it helps to improve my photographic skills. Also, it makes it a lot easier when I print my photos!
