I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
And be what I want to be
Lilac Wine was composed by James Shelton in 1950. The lyrics describe the singer's (the very early 1980's Elkie Brookes for me) heartache at losing her lover and taking solace from wine made from a lilac tree, (which is toxic in 'real life')
