We found a farthing in the till today!! They were 'demonetised' in 1960!! Back in the day it would buy you a blackjack, today a penny might get you a 1/5 of a blackjack!!
What a great image. Can you still buy blackjacks? We had a shop when I was small in the UK and Mum sold blackjacks four for a penny. Probably not allowed to call the blackjacks these days either.
Tee hee, that made me smile out loud! @onewing I adored Blackjacks and Fruit Salad chews and yes, you can still get them, but they are no longer 4 for 1d sadly. They are still called Blackjacks thankfully! But now come under the "retro sweets" packaging and marketing. We are retro now! Or should I say a classy vintage :)
@casablanca Good to see you can still buy them. We have an 'ethnic' or retro shop here in our shopping centre where you can get old fashioned sweets from the UK, I must look out for Blackjacks. I can get Bassets Liquorice all sorts and Fry's Chocolate crème which I used to love in the UK.
