Yes, it really is. I have done this before and have a family member who hit the dizzy heights of being regularly over 200, so kept a spreadsheet of readings 4x per day! Hope it settles soon for you xx
@casablanca honestly it's a real pain C. I rush to do it, I can feel my heartbeats change as I put the cuff in my arm but the readings are concerning even me!! Think need to lose weight, exercise and oh & Lose weight to help myself avoid meds!! How's your back, did singing help last night??
Oh dear! Best to do it before you get out of bed, and after stretching out on the sofa for an hour in the late evening. HE would have to make the morning cuppa, but take the reading before you drink it!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Yes, it is best to sit quiet for 5 minutes before you do it. Make sure your arm is resting up on a table or suchlike, you will get a higher reading if it is low down from my experience. Make sure you don't need to pee (!) and your back is supported with both feet firmly on the floor and you'll get a much more accurate reading generally. I do heartily wish you well.
Losing weight and exercising is good. Just walk more and make it faster to get yourself out of breath at some point every day, makes a big difference. And don't "diet" as such - just eat less food full stop and eat good proper food. I have lost a stone in the last year doing that and it's helped.
My back? Aye me.....love singing! Dr Music is always wonderful in my opinion! It is still giving me gyp, but particularly overnight, so I suspect some inflammation still going on in there. It's healing but it has only been 4 weeks. Injuries can take 6 - 8, so I am probably on track. Just soooo frustrating at times! Thanks for thinking of me xxx
Been there. And when machine makes that second noise,i aways know its going to be up and make it higher cos i panic..mind is very up and down.mine goes up when i am stressed .try relax z
As a nurse in another life you will be aware of the significance of hypertension. Can recommend SlimmingWorld for the old weight loss, we have recently lost 5 stone between us.
Sorry to hear you were having problems with it. I know it can be a pain to measure it all the time. I hope it gets better for you with all the good advice from above
Just sitting and thinking about putting that silly cuff on raises mine. I hope you can get yours under control. For me, giving myself the permission to take time for me to relax and take a reading helped, at least most times.
Been there done that - you need to be doing it if it's that level! Medication (that halved when I lost 30kg 8 years ago) keeps me at a 115/75 average. Hope yours settles soon ๐
@carole_sandford@phil_sandford been there done that gained it all right back. However as there is a proper physical need for health might be better behaved now. @jld29 I think its to be more exercise too (but I'm not getting German Sheperds to take for walks!) @joysabin silly isn't it @onewing well fortunately we still we have the NHS to sort me! @grammyn but it's not what I wanted to read Katy!! @Dawn :) @jqf he is really good and makes sure I haven't rushed before hand and makes me sit still. He also reminds me which arm it is to use today!!
Thank you all, I'm very fit and healthy otherwise, and yes baby brother I will behave and look after myself xxx
Stick with it. It will settle into your life when you have done it for a number of days. If I need my bp measure I have to take my own for a good time before as I freak at the sight of the machine at the doctors
I know the feeling, try ( I know difficult) to keep calm, think happy thoughts. I'm on pills now and have a beautiful bp..........says my gp! Hope yours settlles soon!
@carole_sandford just did this morning one!! Oops @jacqbb I'm sure it will. Last month I smugly told Him how lucky were, unlike our friends who swallow pills for their heart! @padlock it seems do do I now!?!
I hope you get it under control soon Jackie. I've been wearing a fitness tracker for a couple of years now. It's a great way to keep track of how active you are throughout the day.
wow! that is high but then again, i always had low blood pressure. if i go beyond 90/65 that's already high for me, meanwhile, the doctor panics. the only time my blood pressure went up to 100/80 was when i was forced to take cholesterol meds and i started to get dizzy. so off with the meds and bp went back to my normal. i hope your med is only for control and not a regular thing. then you will have to take extra care of your kidney. take care, my friend.
@summerfield mines usually over 70, So it is of concern, but I'll go good, lose the weight, exercise more and cut down caffrjnnd and alcohol. Do far am managing. Thank you. @farmreporter shall I delete this to protect your privacy( or you can) please look after yourself Wendy, take enjoyment in the little things and take care. Sounds as if you are in safe hands so trust the experts. I'm ok, need to change diet, now not in January, and swallow the meds.
Have a good Christmas, rest when you can, stay calm, and be safe. Thank you for your 365 friendship
