Allegedly designed around descriptions from the Bible of Solomon’s temple, the Temple-in-the-fields was built in 1819 as a private home in the middle of fields with nothing surrounding it. Nowadays, it is surrounded by a high flint wall and houses part of a girls’ school in a densely-populated area in the centre of Brighton.
