My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--
It gives a lovely light!
First Fig by Edna St. Vincent Millet

I think you know me now... I can't tell you how much I've loved coming to know you and chatting with so many of you. I spend a rediculous amount of time here, checking in before coffee in the morning, and coming home, excited to share another squirrel picture with you by afternoon. Ken has to remind me to eat lunch... After dinner, he volunteers to clean up and tells me he knows I need to go check in with my friends. And so I pass the evening, having long ago given up watching television at night. My life is richer for knowing you all and your world through photographs.
And so, I want to share someone with you whose work I think is exceptional, and to whom I pay homage with this photo tonight. Her name is Kelly Webster and I love her enigmatic work. http://365project.org/landmeetswater/365/2010-04-03 I looked at who was following her and some of you are already there. She's a marvelous performance artist in her every photograph, and tonight she provided my inspiration. This one's for you Kelly!
In three of Kelly's photos, she enigmatically wears tin foil, so this was my little nod to her... Maybe it ruins the enigma if I explain it, but you know me, can't stay quiet...blah blah blah...
Great shot! You are so very clever...and funny...and witty...and too much! Like we've said before Louise...You Rock! My candle is about to fizzle...lights out!
Lovely picture and story Louise.... You may not know but where ever u write I make it a pointto readit because u are very truly a gem and a person with great sense of humor....I am becoming a fan day by day :D
I'm laughing thinking about how much hot wax hit your hands before you nailed the right exposure :). Thanks for sharing am I'm looking forward to following Kelly officially. As I took a quick look at her work, I've definitely seen some of her great shots before.
I like your self portrait. I do enjoy reading your comments, too, where ever they are. I don't always leave a comment on your photos, but look at them daily. I just wanted you to know that sometimes, I view your photos, usually late in the evening and there is such a long list of comments and seeing that several people have made the same comment that I would have made, so I don't. But I still enjoy your photos and what you write.
Oh I so agree with Claudette! I look forward to your offerings everyday Louise. I have a feeling this project has changed your life, your outlook on things and in someway brought you out of yourself. Hope that's not too personal!
"Project 365" or "showyourface"? I've always lunged "full steam ahead" into anything new I go into...Ken calls them my "Phases". Never was much of a shy violet...
great pic and I can relate to burning the candle at both ends...getting up at 3:30 a.m. to make cinnamon rolls before going to work by 7:15 a.m. (ok, 7:20). There is always more to do and I always think that I can squeeze in just one more thing. Not a professional baker, still just amateur status, but putting my cooking and baking skills to good use fundraising.
You said everything that I was thinking. Beautiful post! Love the lighting and you know, I never would have thought to put anything down to catch the wax!! Oh dear that would have been one way to find out the hard way. :) I like your tribute to your friend. I went to her page and she does have wonderfully inspiring shots. I completely agree that this site has brought me more aware of my surroundings and made me appreciate everything more. Thanks for sharing Louise!
I too had a look at Kelly's page (thanks) and love her style.
The above photograph is just fantastic both in idea and in result! What perfect lighting and am laughing so much at the candle. It really should have been those numeric ones in the order 3-6-5! (Memo to self - or anyone - now there's a thought for a picture!)
I have found this project very affirming and enjoy the way folk are gradually revealing more and more of themselves.
Behind every great woman there is a great man !!!
Doesnt surprise me Ken is that caring for ur hobby , his adoreable just like u !!!
i love ur photo , but oh my i love the story behind it !!!

Love this! It's been a pleasure getting to know you on here, you're an amazing woman and I appreciate all your kind words on my photos. :) Can't wait to see what other clever, beautiful pictures you produce!
Yes, Kelly is the best! =)
And you are, too, Louise. You are radiating so much warmth and love. Incredible. Good to know there are people like you out there.
Oh Louise, what a beautiful and expressive portrait. I love the play on words, with the candles burning in your hands. I'm getting ready to go follow your link now and get a glimpse of Kelly's work. Thanks for sharing that.
Good morning, Louise! Couldn't wait up last night ... another day of Parent/Teacher conferences today! Thanks you for "sharing" Kelly. I peeked into her album, recognize some of the shots, and am now following.
Your self-portrait is WONDERFUL! Love your quirky, knowiing smile! I know it's been said before (many times), but you are truly a gift to all of us at 365! (There is no such thing as too many compliments!)
Quite beautiful, Louise. I love the lighting you chose and am glad that you avoided wax on the carpet (very hard to remove) and wax on your hands (very painful). Your smile looks filled with joy..................:o)
Love this shot and your words (and Edna's). So true. I'm smiling remembering when I first really began to know people and make friends through the web about 3 years ago. When I can't spend the time I like to with them, it does affect my mood. The other wonderful thing about being able to meet and greet this way is that I can stay in touch with family. Most of them live quite a distance from me know, and many of them are on the web with me now chatting it up -- even more than we used to in some cases. It's a great way to start and end a day!
Yay! What a treat! I just looked at the popular page and found that I was sitting side by side with you. Lauren was there as was Elizabeth and Chris - well, part of Chris anyway. That made my day. A family portrait if you will. ;)
And Allison & Luster and Metatransitions... How much fun is that you all?! (15 minutes... It's fleeting...) Lots more wonderful self portraits there, too...I wish I could meet them all!
Louise...thank you for enjoying this site so much, which in turn leads you to reveal YOUR zest for life, and also to leave inspirational messages to each and every one of us, every day...and also to Ken, good sport that he is, for supporting your "habit" and agreeing to let us all "moon" over your very own Tom Selleck.
( I am so lucky to have a "Ken" myself...in fact, I have sometimes referred to him as Ken, and me, Barbie! hee )
Love the picture Louise, very unique! and I feel the exact same way sista! :) I always enjoy your comments and really appreciate your thoughtfulness and appreciation for that matter, of the people and photos on this site :)
so great. you are so great. and your pictures are so great and i love how you give so many people credit.. and how is it that every single picture i look at has a comment from you. it's amamammaazing!!
i wanna be like you!
Nice tribute, and I love the quotation. You made me laugh when I read your comment about being glad to finally see my face because you keep talking to photographers in the park, wondering if one of them might be me. I keep my eyes peeled when I'm out, half expecting to run into you while I'm shopping. :) Our paths will cross one day.
Lovely photo and a such a great choice for inspiration. I also love to follow Kelly's work...she is amazing. But then again, so are you. I love checking out your daily offering and reading the sweet, wonderful remarks left for some of your favorite photos.
it's still the lovely, wonderful you, making me smile everyday with your photos. thanks also for the ref re kelly, i admire her photography hence i am now following her.
louise, thanks a lot for your comments of my portrait. baring my looks in that photo has actually scared me, realized that i am still a long, long, long way to possessing that self-confidence about showing photos of me. unlike my other photos here which i look at many times a day, i had just to quickly scroll down the page directly to the comments section just not to remind me of a nightmare...well, all your comments are encouraging, so maybe, i am on my way.
It's a privilege to meet you at last Louise! You have a lovely face that radiates the genuine warmth and humour with which you write your comments here on 365. The poem is really inspirational. Thank you : )
Oh my goodness, you are so sweet :) I love the lighting in this, I've always wanted to take pictures with candles but I'm afraid of fire so those pictures will have to wait ;)
This candle photo was such a great idea...makes me think of a seance...now wouldn't that be fun! Thank you for telling us about Kelly. I had not come across her work until today and oh, my, she is a special girl...bet she added on a whole bunch of followers today!
I too have given up tv...! Not only that it helps the evenings go bye much faster so I don't feel so alone. It's just nice to know that people care. I never thought that this would happen. I just never could imagine it. I hope you are working on your assignment!
i wasn't kidding when i said that you are the most popular 365er on this site, now you see why i said that :) everybody loves you because you are fun and warm hearted, we are so lucky to have you around!
10:20 pm here on the 14th and I wait for my wife to get home from her book club meeting. So what am i doing? Looking at pics and profiles on this site. And of checking to see who still needs to post for today. I wonder what Louise will post. But then I realize it is three hours earlier and you have nearly five hours left. Oh well, I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow.
The above photograph is just fantastic both in idea and in result! What perfect lighting and am laughing so much at the candle. It really should have been those numeric ones in the order 3-6-5! (Memo to self - or anyone - now there's a thought for a picture!)
