What an exciting day! You've all been so nice saying that you were thinking of us as the storm approached, and, not having watched any news, I wondered myself what we had in store! We woke to the sound of high winds, followed by rain that blew sideways, so we knew we were in store for some excitement! The lights flickered several times, each time accompanied by a loud "thunk" from the transformer out front! We got out the computer, and there was Lunenburg scoring a direct hit by what they called a category one hurricane. Don't know if you can see the little red dot (that was our town) in the center of the storm. Finally the power went out again, this time to remain off for a couple hours; thank heaven it was still daylight. Just as I has surmised, the four of us sat and visited in the living room, stepping to the door now and then to check on the storm. When it died down, we stepped out to see a lot of downed limbs and debris in the street. When the power came back on, we went for a drive, and were amazed at how many like-minded people were on the road with us! You can see how the blowing wind made for a memorable Lunenburg photo of our friends, John & Mary, visiting us from California! We also drove out to Blue Rocks where the sea was churned up and the waves were huge! What a sight! What a day! And the crazy thing is that tonight I feel exhausted! Too much excitement!
Thanks for all your notes, dear friends! I'll be back with you 100% in a few days!
They had us all hyped up for something big here in Massachusetts but we barely even had rain worth mentioning. Glad you didn't have too much trouble from Earl. And I hope you got some rest! ;)
I'm glad to hear you came through it okay. And glad to hear Earl calmed down to a category 1, although still quite ugly, its not as bad as it could have been. It is always amazing how calm and beautiful it is after the hurricane. Everything has an interesting glow.
Have you heard anything from Darryl, in New Zealand (farmboy9155)? There was a 7 earthquake there and he has not responded to my postings asking if he is okay.
wow fabulous action photos!!!! It sounds like quite an experience for you! :D
Living in florida my whole life, I've been through plenty of hurricanes and I absolutely love them! my brother when he was younger would get a sheet and hold it out for the wind to pull him on a skateboard! it was the funniest thing.
but at least it didn't cause too much damage! hopefully that's all you'll have to endure from this hurricane season. :D
Spending a storm with friends! Today will be memorable for all you you! I saw on the internet this morning that Lunenberg was a direct hit and thought of you immediately. I'm glad you're all ok.
So happy to hear that Earl didn't cause too many problems for you all and so glad your company arrived safely. We had a beautiful day here with just a little bit of a breeze. Wonderful collage Louise!
Wow!! I had no idea it was coming your way! I don't watch the news much either. I suppose I should turn it on once in a while!
That sounds like a whole lot of excitement! Great collage to represent it for us! I'm so glad that everything is okay. Beautiful photo ops with all of those waves. Hopefully it's all over and done with now and you can get back to normal.
Glad you made it safely through the hurricane! The collage tells the story so well. You never know what to expect with a hurricane…glad Earl was easy on you. Hopefully the others who met up with Early got off easily too. Have a peaceful evening!
glad that fallen limbs were the worst that you had to deal with!
boy, your friends picked a swell time to come visit you guys, but i bet the waves were a nice sight as well. Have an awesome weekend! :)
I'm relieved to know that hurricane passed without great problems to you and to the Linenburg. I can imagine how you were excited in the middle of storm, I would do too. I wish a safe return to CA!!!
I am glad you all made it through the Hurricane alright. I wondered how you were doing, when I heard that it was headed your way. The photos are great. Especially the one of the seaside.
Fantastic news, Louise, that you and Ken are fine. I bet you don't want any more action just for the moment!! Thanks for keeping us up to date and letting us know all is alright.
Thanks for the update and really glad you did not get any big damage. You photos do show the increased wind... Enjoy your friends and a memory you have all shared.
That certainly is exciting! I am glad you are all okay and there was no major damage from the storm or significant power outages. Dill was inside for the entire storm I hope?
So happy to hear that all of you are safe and sound, Louise. No wonder you're exhausted --- there's nothing like a good storm to get the blood pumping!
This one missed us in Richmond, but we've experienced some of those storms in the past and they certainly can be nerve wracking. Not so bad if you can stay snug in your home, but i pity anyone who has to be out in the high winds and heavy rains. Just be glad Earl has gone from Category 4 to 1 by the time he got to you. You got to experience the drama without the long lasting after-effects.
Glad to hear you made it through the storm all right! It's so funny to me to hear how excited you all are about the storm.Whenever there's fierce winds in my country, there's all sorts of warnings for everyone to stay indoors, all the public facilities come to a standstill (like no trains running, even before the storm starts!!) Everyone gets real worried and 'hot and bothered'about it..And that's not even a hurricane, just a storm of about windforce 10 or 11 (on the Beaufort-scale)...!!
Must have been interesting to drive around and see the damage that was done. Glad it was just 'material'.
Your friends will remember their visit!
I'm pleased that you are safe and hope that all of you who live there are able to put your lives back together again very soon. Take care ... and thanks for the photos!
Happy your all ok , stay safe ... i will be watching the bbc news over here in Merry old England ... so if you see a news crew give us a wave Louise (o; ...
Quite the day, eh? We finally had power restored today - 24 hours later! Glad you made it through and your street looked very much like my backyard - spent the day cleaning up! Hope your guests are enjoying NS ...lol
now there is a collage for the memory book! Glad to hear everyone is safe and sound. I especially like the picture of the ocean with the wave crashing over the rock!
It must have been an exciting day!! I am so glad that you are are safe and the storm wasn't that bad! Sometimes Mother Nature likes to remind us how powerful she is. It's been raining here all day and I am so ready for some sunny skies! The days are getting so much shorter and I am not sure that I like this... eternal summer - that would be nice!
