Amidst our very full list of things to finish before leaving, we made two trips to the vet today. This morning Ken picked up a trap in the hope of capturing the un-neutered male kitty who's made his home in our yard. Nothing like putting it off until the last minute! Then this afternoon we noticed (ick) a wound on our Tabby's hindquarters, so back to the vet again. I admire doctors who can do what's necessary to unflinchingly clean open sores. He prescribed antibiotics and a topical ointment which will need administering for another week. When we got home we wrote our cat sitter a larger check...
oh, i'm sorry! i know it must be hard to leave your sweet kitty like that. but i'm sure aforementioned cat sitter will take good care!! so, it sounds like you've made a permanent addition of the male! the more the merrier, right!? (:
hope you are ticking all those 'to-do's off your list so that you can breathe a sigh of relief and be on your merry way! and i love how you captured that forlorn little nose peeking out of the box. *sniff, sniff* indeed.
Cute photo of the cat in the box! Not so cute is the extra care needed to take care of it. Thank heavens you have a sittler who will help out while you are gone. I hope you can also capture the un-neutered male... don't need any more strays to show up while you are gone on vacation.
Great picture through the air hole ... the joys of being away.... and the extra little expenses that get added to the cheque book! Travel agents don't quote for this sort of thing in the price of a holiday!
Awww, poor Tabby (but what an adorable photo)! I, too, admire vets for being able to do what they do. And you mentioning your sitter reminded me I need to call mine for this weekend!
There is always something coming up the last minute. poor little kitty...hope she'll be better soon...and that she will be in good hands when you guys are gone on your trip. of course you are making sure of that I know
Well, so glad to hear that Tabby will be on the mend, and I think it's great how you are always so willing to take such good care of the animals. Kitty will be in good hands the way it sounds. And it sounds like your time is running short and then its off again. Hope you have a great day.
Lol ... Louise at first 'quick glance' I thought that box said Whisky city & i thought 'hello' what has Louise & Ken been up to today ... then I saw the little nose peeping out & read the box again.. Whisky city sounds good (sure Ken will 'perhaps' agree ) but whisker city sounds a safer place to visit .. Lovely shot ..
The things we do for love! I hope Tabby gets better soon! Tao comes home with scratches every day - him and the heighbouring male kitty have a love-and-hate relationship ;-) Nothing serious so far, he seems to heal pretty quick on his own, but still, I worry about him. Travel arrangements are never fun, but the trips that follow most certainly will be ;-) You must be getting so excited about your grand baby!! Pets are precious, but little tiny babies are even more so... at least while they are sleeping ;-)
Fur-kids - keep you busy like the little ones did yesterday or years ago...it's always some scrape or cut or something. And then we worry....we always worry - whether it's our kids or our fur-kids! Sweet shot of the 'nose'!
Oh, no. Just when you think you've got it all covered. So sorry to hear about the kitty emergency and hopefully all will be well soon. What an adorable kitty nose shot, btw.
I know that you're probably frantic right now trying to tie up loose ends. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon and am glad that you'll be able to be here in time for the fall colors since the 15th is always the peak around here.
Vets are very brave, I certainly never could do it!
Re: I think that yes, there are some young people who're just arrogant, uneducated and don't want to understand mental health. But I think there are others who want to understand and just...can't. I'm not sure that I'd be able to understand very much at all had I never been through it. I guess if it doesn't enter a young person's world, it just won't come on their radar! I personally believe that schools should try and promote awareness, but then again, they're so busy as it is!
@clarissajohal Still rolling his eyes, we just released "our" new kitty into the yard and he rewarded us by taking off over the wall! I said to Ken, "Well, there goes our $160!" LOL...I'm quite sure he'll return later when he's revived and hungry, but I wonder if he'll ever be socialized. Still, you know I totally agree with you animals should be neutered, and he's harmless in the neighborhood now!
@bradsworld To take kitties with me to Chicago would be like carrying "coals to Newcastle"...each of my girls has 3 apiece. I can always be recognized in public by the cat fur on my clothes!
@winosandfoodies I've come to accept that I'll never be without pets. Everyone of mine has found his way to my yard and hasn't left...as has been the case in nearly every instance through the years! And now I've got another new foundling... I've even had two cockateils and my current pet canary (of 10 years) end up in my yard where I've caught them. I can't explain it...
Awwww...poor Tabby. Hope he heals quickly. Having all these little creatures, we live at the vet's. When we go to the counter to pay the bill...they always say, "See ya next Saturday" I've got to admit, it was a little funny the first few times but now it's getting a little old...LOL. All jokes aside, we love the vets that we visit every week or so : )
@skt I think about "all the little doggies" you have...and then I realize I'm now caring for 5 cats...and a canary! (How "Little Old Lady" of me!) We had two stopovers at the vet *again* today, too...pets aren't a cheap hobby!
hope you are ticking all those 'to-do's off your list so that you can breathe a sigh of relief and be on your merry way! and i love how you captured that forlorn little nose peeking out of the box. *sniff, sniff* indeed.
Hope all kitties are okay now?

Love the nose sticking out. Great shot Louise!
