The Lunenburg Academy sits on a hill overlooking the town and has been an elementary school the past 117 years before closing its doors this school year. A new, box-like building, lacking grace and beauty has been built across town for the children. Where is the history of multiple generations attending the same school? When we left last year, there was speculation as to how the building would now be used. Looking forward to hearing the answer...
How sad to show such lack of appreciation for history. This is a wonderful composition. The architecture looks so Canadian and the flowers so robust and beautiful.
When you see, and hear things like this, it makes you sad. It is such a historical looking building, beautiful in its design, and surely a place that will hopefully be utilized for public enjoyment of some kind. At least they are not talking about tearing it done.
@digitalrn It's on the historic registry and the town loves this building. It was being utilized by "Classroom at Sea" in the summers for a few years, but the ship sunk off south America...bad luck, though everyone was safely rescued! They'll come up with something...this town has a lot of money for special use. It would make a really nice museum, but it's quite a large space!
Such a stunning shot! Beautiful architecture and gorgeous irises. I would have loved to have attended school in a building like this. I hope that it's put to good use.
@peggysirk can you imagine their annuals? Though it was a grade school, surely they took some pictures of the classes out in front of the building! I've been inside on several occasions...it's just charming, old fashioned and quaint...
Welcome back, Louise! I had left for 2011, but started again for 2012. I really missed the sense of mindfulness that this project "forced" on me! This is such a beautiful building....I love your composition with the flowers.
Beautiful shot, I really love the focus. Sad to hear they won't be using it as a school anymore, it looks like a beautiful place to get a good education!
Sorry to hear the sad story , No respects nowadays for great history. Hope they will find a good and new destination for it. You `ve make a beautiful pic of it it with all the lovely Iris in front.
My wife ask me to tell you she`s pleased by you comment on her photo
