Haven't Given it a Second Thought in 40+ Years! by Weezilou

Haven't Given it a Second Thought in 40+ Years!

This waste-paper basket was a wedding gift in 1969, and has sat in the corner of our bedroom for all these years. Turning invitations into gift items was the style back then as we received ours back in many different forms. Perhaps I went overboard to stage it, but when I was done, it was returned to the corner where it will continue to do the mundane work to which it's been assigned in life.
what a great composition and how wonderful to reach 40 years :)

@annied Thanks, Annie! I get a little lackadaisical with numbers...we were married in '69, so that was almost 47 years ago! I could have been more precise, but I stopped thinking about that wedding gift around 40 years ago! It's pretty mundane! haha!

@Weezilou hahaha I am a bit like that with numbers too...and obviously can't add or subtract lol

What a beautiful memory!

Aw, how lovely!

Great composition! At least it's useful art. My wedding invitation is in a frame... a gift that just sits there collecting dust.

Lovely composition Louise! I love the wedding photo - your dress is so pretty! A lovely memory!

Fabulous set up and shot!

@thirdjoe @jamibann Thank you both for stopping by to comment! It's silly, but I did have fun making a waste basket look pretty!
@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth! Yep...have the framed one as well plus a few other items. The "Memory-Keeper Stores" must have been working overtime back in the day!
@pamknowler Thanks, Pam! A friend shot that photo and it's always been my favorite! I designed and made the dress as my final sr-year project when I was studying Fashion Design. I remember the head of the department being so upset with me because I refused to put it in the Fashion Show; I wanted to save it for my wedding! Headstrong then, and still strong-willed, but I try to temper it! hahaha!

Fab shot - very creative and just great for the mundane challenge. What a great idea to turn invitations into to useful items.

@Weezilou even more impressed now I know you made it! So many strings to your bow you clever lady! Always artistic!
January 29th, 2016
@pamknowler I've had a busy past...what an I say? I don't sit still easily... I sit, yes, a lot, but I've always got something going (if only in my head!) Enough about me... I have little doubt there's a lot to unearth about you, as well as all of us who'll meet in May! I just tend to "chatty" and spill all the beans!

you have set up this picture so well Louise. I dont think we did that sort of thing with our wedding invitations here in Austraia. Mine is stuck in an album with other memorabilia. We were married in 1970! would love to see a closeup of the dress.

Such a beautiful still life! I think it's wonderful that you still have and use something you received as a wedding gift! I have a few things around that we still use but I'm 20 years behind you!! :-)

Congrats to you and Ken, may you continue to use this waste-paper basked for many many years to come!

Terrific photo and story - congratulations :) And i love the fact you received a waste basket as a gift - today's married couples wouldn't cope with the thought of that!! You've cheered up my day :)

I like the water in the background too.

I can only imagine some of the things we have stashed away from years gone by. If anything it stimulates your memories as you stumble across these items.

40 years - congrats! Rob and I are just coming up to 20 years. Hopefully Rob and I will one day reach 40 - that's if we don't get on each other's nerves while we build the cottage. Haha.... best wishes to you both!

LOL I was married in 75 and we just passed our 40th last year, so I was a bit confused with your adding!! My husband does the same thing. I ask him each year how long it's been and he usually says "tooooooo long"!! Then he says he doesn't remember, it's been so long, and I call him "My Silver Tongued Devil" Congratulations on 47 years and keeping a gift that long too!!! Cute photo and love your wedding photo in there too!

@cashew ...I was noticing that waste basket and "thinking about it" for the first seven years, and then it became mundane! Thanks for your sweet comment; I always love hearing from you!
