We're here! (You were probably expecting a Toucan!) We have one day here in the capitol city of San Jose, and being the rainy season, we knew we had until mid afternoon to go out and take pictures. We were told of an excellent sanctuary for injured animals called "Zoo Ave" (Ave pronounced like in "Ave Maria"). We were astounded at the size, the cleanliness the spacious, often open, housing for the animals and the signage on everything (in English and Spanish). Ken took photos of most of the signage, but I'm leaving most pictures on my card and didn't get the names of the birds uploaded. I'm just so proud of Ken that he's trying very hard to consider composition and focus, so I wanted to post his picture first.
Since I have 4 albums, I might use them all tonight as I don't know how much free time I'll have in the days ahead. Tomorrow we fly to Puerto Jiminez, a resort, where I'm taking a 12-person photo class for 5 days with Matt Kloskowski (Ken's hoping to do some deep-sea fishing!) We can't believe how fast this came around since signing up back around February!
(When I find this hawk's proper name, I'll add it!)
@danette I was sure there must be people here who've heard of him! Of course! You being from Fla! I'm so excited to spend time with this group! As soon as I read he was teaching in Costa Rica I was immediately on board!!!
Such a majestic bird! Fav. Your class sounds great Louise...5 days of tricks, techniques, pointers and practice...how cool! Be sure to share some of the things you learn! :)
@allie912 Ken and I both have them and we LOVE this camera!!! Tanzania when???!!! Met a lovely man in our tour group who was born there and now lives in London. Will look forward to seeing some amazing photos! We were told again and again, "Take the longest lens you can afford" and then came the caveat... "You'll learn it will never be long enough!" Have a fabulous time! Are the Argabrites coming north this summer? We look forward to seeing them, too!
@Weezilou I am traveling on safari in August with my college roommate. I have actually bought a second 6000 so I can keep the long lens on one permanently. This is the trip of a life time and I want to be prepared!
What an experience! This really is a wonderful image of the bird. @allie912 We're going (we hope) to Tanzania in December...will look forward to seeing your photos from there.
Oh how lucky are you to be taking a course with Matt!
Can't wait to see your photos!
