All the while I photographed this I was calling it a "Strawberry Frog" as I wasn't hearing the local name. I looked it up and came to find out that it was *so* obvious, I was correct...with a few other suitable names:
strawberry poison-arrow frog, red-and-blue poison-arrow frog, flaming poison-arrow frog, Blue Jeans Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates pumilio)
Yesterday I could see that most of you are not big fans of snakes... How about a handsome little prince of a frog?
And thanks so much for supporting my Costa Rican photos! I'll be getting to more animals and birds soon!
@ludwigsdiana I love your description! Thank you, as I have to get to these images and fulfill that trip and project, so for the most p[art, I'm taking no other photos while doing these. Best way to stay focused! @casablanca
@casablanca "Flamboyant" is his way of telling others not to bite him!
@henrir I think in the states we may not have any poisonous frogs (though the "Buffo" in Hawaii can poison a dog...) The few I saw in CR were quite colorful, but also contained in their names, "poison dart"...
@dide Thanks, Diann... It was a delight to see these out in nature!
OK Louise...this frog is quite cute and I love the blue jean name. However, what stood out to me in every name of the cutie pie was POISON?!? EXACTLY WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? LOL! My doctors say because I am allergic to bees of all kinds, I am also probably allergic to other insects, like black widows and other venomous things!
He does look cute and sounds very poisonous! Is that red a warning to others that he is deadly? A great image showing off his blue legs perfectly! Fav!
@vignouse Can't keep anything from your watchful eye, can we?!! (Our guides did pick him up if he jumped off the log... Might be considered "loco" in that part of the world!)
@kchuk Love your notion about the red-headed prince! However, to all who guessed it, he IS said to be Poison, and we were always warned not to kiss the Bad Boys!
