In previous years I’ve posted photos of our ever-shifting group members, and thought it was time for an updated photo. What I love about being in Lunenburg is the extreme diversity of the backgrounds of our friends. In this photo is a 90-y-o who’s never traveled beyond the boundaries of his home “just up the road” and he still plants a large garden and runs his saw mill on his property. There’s a nurse who was born in the US and within days, returned to Canada where she’s remained ever since. Her husband was a timber man and flew his own plane. You may recognize my friend Enid who’s here again this summer from Australia. She just sold her second house since coming here and is in the process of having a third one built and ready for her return next year. There are two sea captains, Cheryl and Don Barr. He was the captain of the Bluenose II and she was raised aboard ship in her childhood. On this day we celebrated her birthday. Another Canadian friend here sails and travels, having lived at one time near us in California, though we didn’t know him then.
There’s never enough time to chat at length with everyone, but we’re happy to be in their company for whatever time we’re allowed.
We understand why you love Lunenburg. It just seems that small towns always have the friendliest of people.... friends seem closer to one another in the towns.... It's just different than big cities.... Nice pix, Louise.
