I got such a chuckle from some of the comments about my duck in the pool yesterday! I suppose I do have a reputation now for throwing in texture at will! I thought you might better appreciate what I have to work with when the ducks are around in the morning; the photo is only to provide a background story for you!
When we did the remodel, I never anticipated the wonderful reflections we'd get, and the pool bottom is now a black pebble , giving the water a dark green, pond-like effect.
To answer Chris's question, yes, the family swims in it; it's cleaned weekly with chemicals adjusted, and cleaned-up as necessary. Me? I just enjoy photographing the ducks...and the kids when they visit!

I posted this for you who wondered how I captured or used "the texture". Maggiemae, the tiles are not on the bottom, but just reflected from the side. Emilie, I didn't have to add the duck... They're opportunists and posers! No Joan, as you surmised, I wasn't "playing with textures" again! And yes, Chris, the pool is for swimming as well, but the ducks get miffed and leave! Thanks for all the comments! I'm milking what I have in the yard for all its worth, and I appreciate the fact that you seem to be enjoying it with me! Have a good weekend!
Great capture of the ducks in the pool.
Are you familiar with the facts you can`t use the pool now by yourself ? Waterbirds has many virus that is worse to humans. In our country lately many ducks and chicken farms has been clear our by the Aviaire influenza virus.
@pyrrhula Yes, here, too, some birds have had to be put down because of the virus. For what it's worth, we've had ducks coming by here (as they do many in other's pools throughout the area) for years...30 years maybe... Testing the chemical levels is a ritual, and to date, no one, including the children, has gotten sick. That so many birds die is really a tragedy, and I do hope a cure is found soon!
So interesting to see your beautiful pool where you are able to get so many fabulous images! You are very lucky to be surrounded by so many great photo opportunities while you are mostly housebound!
Glad to know that someone else does the cleaning and adjustments - it can be a drag! Put a cat statue right by the pool and that might keep the ducks away!
