upland sandpiper by aecasey

upland sandpiper

I never think of sandpipers as being a prairie bird, but the Upland Sandpiper, like its relative the Curlew, nests on the prairie. This is one of two parents who were strategically perched on fenceposts keeping watch over their nest of chicks. They never strayed far, and I only caught a glimpse of the young ones in the tall grass.
Beautiful bird, great DoF and bokeh
