How do people get those "in your face" dragonfly pictures? I can't get near them with my macro lens or they flit away. Oh well .. these two sat and posed for the longest time this morning as long as I kept my distance, so I made do with my zoom lens. Getting closer to that bucket list shot.
You have a good shot here. Try using a long zoom, it you have one, then you can keep well away from them and just wait. Early morning is a good time before their wings have warmed up, especially with mist in the air.
Well, if you don't mind cheating a bit -- get a butterfly net, catch it (which is no small feat!), put it in the fridge, then haul it out when it is cold and perch it somewhere. That will give you a few minutes to get a portrait.
