I've been saving this picture, taken in the school garden, because i am intrigued by the combination of ripeness and decay.
After note: I asked the science teacher to identify this berry and here is her reply:
"black berry lilies...the seed pod of a little orange blossom....Thomas Jefferson had them at Monticello"
The contrast is amazing is it not? The dark berries look like they are ready to burst with juicy goodness for some winged or 4 legged creature.
The leaves look -- well, soooo sad !! This photo is GREAT.....

I hope you get to see or (hear tell of) what creature eats these berries.
To answer your question about the chess pieces in my pic yesterday. I don't know if the chess pieces were heavy or not. I really really wanted to pick one up but I didn't. I really wanted to at least switch the knight and bishop pieces as they were in the wrong spots. At least that's the way I learned to play chess but I haven't played in a long time.
Great DOF in this and the light on the berries is great. Trying to catch up on my comments tonight and looking at all the photos I have missed over this past week or so
