Another adventure was had tonight trying to pull off this shot that I'd been planning for awhile. It was freezing out and the sidewalks were icy, I nearly slipped with the camera. I had tripod troubles (what's new?) and I had two batteries die on me so I only got off a few shots. But, I was happy with how this one turned out. My mom was a trooper to help me out by pushing the shutter after I had it all set up and for standing out in the cold with me for about 45 minutes to get the photos.
This is for my get pushed architecture challenge (though it was supposed to be in b&w). There aren't many colors going on as it is dark, but converting it made it lose it's warmth and I couldn't bring myself to do it.
@ggshearron Hey Glover...this was the one that I was going to try doing selective coloring with, but I couldn't bring myself to desaturate the rest. It lost it's golden glow and I couldn't do it. Does this work, though?
wow, love this. however I would love to see the left one third cropped off. your composition still works very well with that bit cropped off. well done. fav
@abhijit Thanks so much for the fav and the suggestion, Abhijit. Do you think that I should keep the pole things in my crop or crop just past them? Also, is the image too sharp? I sharpened it up a tad, but perhaps I look a bit angular?
@365inthelifeofjcvogt Thanks for your ISO advice recently on my night bridge shot. I tweaked it and think that I got it down better for this one. What do you think?
OH my goodness this is incredibly stunning! Super shot and well worth all the troubles you had taking it! Insta-FAV! A++ Shot for the challenge :) And that was sweet of your mom as well :)
@amandalomonaco personally I would remove the pole things and just keep the building. I think they are a bit distracting and stop you from being the focal point. But this is my personal opinion only and it may not work :)
@kbalychev Aw, thanks so much, my sweet friend. The sticky fav button didn't work, though. That sneaky thing. Super appreciate your sweet words and compliments:).
Amanda, this is just beautiful! Wow, what an awesome shot. I think I like this one between the two because I like it showing the path leading to you. A fave!
Instant fave, Amanda. I am so impressed with the forethought you put into your work. I can't decide which one I like best but I think I'm leaning toward this one because it puts the shot in context.
@maggiemae Love your sweet comments, Maggiemae. I need a remote timer one of these days so that I can do this more on my own. I did need her to guard the camera, too, as it was so far away from me. She loved how it came out. Thanks for the fav, too, friend:)!
@tonydebont I have been drooling over that reflection for months now, plotting the shot. So so glad that it turned out despite the circumstances and that you liked it a bunch, enough to fave it, too. Thanks so much, Tony!
@adamj I couldn't figure out what to do and how to best stand so that I could be still for 10 seconds or so. I didn't get many shots at it (usually I try a bunch of things), but this did work well. Thanks so much!
@losthorizon Beau, your comments made me smile. Thanks so much for them and the fav! So glad that I finally pulled this one off and did so pretty well (like what I had in my head).
@lyno They are thawing out a bit, that's for sure. I love how having Get Pushed really motivates me to come up with specific ideas for shots. So glad to do that each week. Thanks, my friend. Will I see you next weekend?
@amandalomonaco There's something about looking at a photo you took that fits exactly what you envisioned. Those are always the best shots for me. Not in terms of popularity, or anything like that. Cause usually they end up being unpopular. Lol
@fueast Do you like how I was my own lone wo(Man). Hee hee. Thanks so much, Alison. I knew it needed a person and a pop of red:). So appreciate your comments and fav!
@jonesp Clearly it is not, by your lack o' fav;-). But thanks anyway:)). Did you see I did your letter a day or so ago? It's b&w, too, and I really loved how it turned out. It was my first time shooting in mono.
@lyno So glad to have them working again. Love it, too, when my ideas work out the way I had planned. Thanks, Lyn. Meet up at Findley Market on Saturday afternoon. You in?
@rockinrobyn Thanks, Miss Robyn. Very much! I think that I am getting this good selfie thing down finally:)!
@dreamatrix Thanks so much for your kind comments!
@archaeofrog Thanks, Katie:). I prefer this one, too. Perhaps I should have cropped out those stick thingys though. I am too impatient and lazy with my editing usually.
@sugarmuser Love your great comments...thanks, sweet lady!!
@emrob I agree, Mandy. Thanks so much for your comments and fav, friend!
@losthorizon Ha...funny. It doesn't happen for me as often as I would like, but when it does, it's amazing. And you are right, so often they don't get the response I would expect.
@happysnap Thanks so much for the sweet words and fav, lady. I agree. It was totally worth it. I love times like this when it all comes together in the end. The difficulty of it makes it better somehow.:)
I would certainly say so! You knew what would work best for the situation and went with that. Very impressive. I love the way the light plays in the shot as well as the great reflection ... they all work to draw you in to a very warm shot. Excellent!
@kbalychev Oh my goodness, check your faves. I don't think it took again! Not a huge big deal, but if you want it in your fav file, check it out. Oh and this is my first shot ever to make top 5 for get pushed. Super excited. I've been doing it since it started last summer with no top 5's yet!
@my_photofun Thanks so much for your kind comments and fav, Darinka.
@taffy You are very sweet for your kind words and faves, Taffy. Thanks so much for that!
@siwainastromoy Siw, I was drooling over them for months. This is where I walk my dog regularly and I have been pondering this photo since then. I finally decided to try it when I had my architecture push and this made the top 5 for get pushed.:) Thank you so much!!
@stevecameras Thanks so much for your great comments, the fave and the follow, Steve. Really appreciate it!!!
@steampowered You are very kind for your comments and fav and thanks for letting me know about PP, Paul. Super excited. This one is my best received shot yet.
@amandakay129 Thanks so much for that, Amanda. Your name is one of my favs:).
@hudamor Love your great comments, Huda. Thanks so much for them and the fav. You are kind!
@lindseying Aw, thanks so much for your sweet comments and follow back, lady. So appreciate that!
@newbie Aw, you are kind to say that. Thanks so much. I am glad that I didn't. It so would have been missing something important.
@masosy You are sweet to say that, my friend. This made top 5 for get pushed...my first time there for get pushed and I've done it since last summer. Excited!!!:)
@jackie8 Aw, so glad that you found me. Thanks so much for your kind comments and fav, Jackie!!:)
@jonesp I teased you above because I felt comfortable enough to do so. Hope you took it as such. And this made top 5 for this week's get pushed and got a Ross fav. Pretty excited. Hey, where do you order your prints from? I have a photo that is in the finals in a local competition and I have to print and frame if for the exhibit.
Bahhhh that is super annoying cause i purposely checked it and it said A Fav... hmmmmm I think it's those strange monkeys.... ok it definitely says Fav right now... :) sorry about that sunshine! :) And SUPER CONGRATS on making a Top 5 Finalist! WOO HOO!!!! :)
@amandalomonaco No worries Amanda. I know your sense of humour well enough now not to take it the wrong way :-) I cant even remember when I last faved a photo so dont take it personally. Congrats on the top 5. As for printing, I use a guy in England so not much help to you. I have heard very good things about mpix.com thought. Hope this helps and good luck!
@seanoneill Loved yours, too. If I do, it would be my first time this year. Thanks, Sean! Slow down with your faves...you are beating me;-).
@kbalychev So weird, huh? Thanks, lady. Hope me telling you wasn't obnoxious. I am happy dancing:))).
@jonesp Shew. Nope, England is no help at all. Mpix was on my list as is another. I will price check. Oh to get prize money so that I can get some new gear!
Not in the slightest darling :) I think maybe cause I hit the back button when I did it the first time?? Weird for sure! I definitely wanted this one in my FAVS folder!! Love it! :)
@violeta I will!:). Thanks so much for your fun comments and the fav. Really appreciate it. I knew that this could be a great idea for a photo, but I am blown away by the super response to it!
@sandier Thanks so much, Sandie. Really appreciate your comments and fav. You are kind!:)
@kwiksilver All the time, Miss Gillian. I got it stuck on there recently and I needed my engineer husband to get it off, one of the legs got bent recently and on this trip it fell apart and I couldn't get the camera to lock in place. Such a mess with it. I need a better one and one that works well for the tripod challenged;). I would have given up had I been alone. So so glad that my mom was there to help out. Thanks so much for understanding and for your sweet comments and fav!:)
@pocketmouse Thanks, Teresa. I really appreciate your great comments! I bought the red coat for $30 on sale earlier in the year. My best $30 spent ever!! I knew that the photo needed a pop of red:).
Looks like this one went viral, funny how that happens sometimes. Anyway, it deserves to be so successful because it's that rarity, a genuinely original photo. Must say that I envy you the subject matter though! Fav, obviously.
@automaticslim Aw, thanks so much. Really, really appreciate your kind words. So glad that I pulled off the shot that had been in my head for awhile and that you liked it enough to fav it. I kinda like it when it goes viral as it doesn't happen too often. Thank you, Andy!
Hi Amanda, thanks for the follow! And congratulations to you too for your spot in the top 5 - I just love this shot (and you got my vote for it). Well done!
What an amazing and sexy shot, Amanda. You sure have grown as a photographer. I think this is the longest list I have ever gone to the bottom of. How cool is that. Congrats on the top 5 also. FAV
@geocacheking Thanks:)! Glad to hear it! I am still trying to figure out and use dof and loving every minute of it...at least when it works:). Loved that push you gave me!
@melissapike You are very kind. Thank you!! Glad we will keep up with each other on here now!:)
@darsphotos You are very sweet to say that, my friend. I really am amazed at what I can accomplish with my new camera. Glad that I am showing improvement and growth! Thanks so much for you words and fav!!:) Any word back yet? How are you feeling?
@amandalomonaco I have my thyroid biopsy tomorrow (Friday) March 8 at 8am. Dan is taking the day off. Nervous but ready for this to be over. Will get results next week. Will let you know. I do love you and your new camera. You have done such wonderful work. Wish I could keep up, but will catch up later. Take care.
Congratulations on reaching the Top 20 (and the # 5 spot at that!). I love the determination you showed in achieving this shot. Kudos to you and your mom.
@cmc1200 Aw, thank you, my friend! So happy to finally get some good selfies for a change. Granted you can't really see me, but...maybe that is why it is good;-).
@darrenboyj Thanks so very much, Darren. Super dooper appreciate the kind words and fav! You are kind!
@anazad511 Thanks so much, sweet lady. It was so nice to have an extra set of hands to guard the camera and click the photo when I was in position so that the timer would take over.
How did I not come here and fav this when I first saw it on the TOP 20!! Wow, you rock lady (to use your terms which I loove!). I am so proud of you getting that shot up there. It's amazing. I was flicking through the top 20 this morning showing my husband what great shots some people do, and yours was the one that caught his eye the most. 'Wow, who did that? Where's that? What a great shot'. So you have every right to be proud of yourself. I was when I made it there. You go girl!
@bobfoto This was my other top 20 gazebo shot. See what I mean about boring? I was editing another shot from the same place tonight. I need a new place. And I am going back in the morning to shoot there again (but will avoid the stinkin' gazebo at all costs).
Been browsing your selfies this evening - wow, you have quite a collection. I love this one, and have to FAV it although I know it counts for nothing this late in the game. I just wanted you to know how much I was enjoying browsing your selfies. Do More! Do More! You inspire me. :D
@swguevin Thanks so very much for that, lady!:)
@maggiemae Love your sweet comments, Maggiemae. I need a remote timer one of these days so that I can do this more on my own. I did need her to guard the camera, too, as it was so far away from me. She loved how it came out. Thanks for the fav, too, friend:)!
