I spied this woman down an alley way in Over the Rhine, a derelict area of downtown Cincinnati. You can see by the architecture that it was once beautiful. Today it is run down, mostly boarded up and probably 80% abandoned.
I was actually shooting the cool looking alleyway, and then the lady walked into the scene. I love that she was watering her plant and trying to beautify her rather dismal surroundings. I actually found so much beauty walking around this sad, forgotten place.
So glad that there is lots of work and restoration going on there.
I love street photography on here and hope to become better at catching shots that capture emotion and tell a story.
There have been times when I have been less than excited about my house and then I come across some of the residences of less fortunate and all of a sudden my home looks like theTaj Mahal. Great capture Amanda!
Great POV. I too love seeing the restoration of old buildings and areas. They have so much more character than modern construction, IMO.
What a wonderful piece of street/candid photography.
Wonderful story and great photo to stumble upon. I love the composition with the alley and the leading lines that are so dark and then opening on the light and the watering. Lovely.
You definitely captured a good story here. I love your interpretation of the woman's inner world. Keep at it, lady, and you'll become a great street photographer!
Amanda, Hi! I see you have come to visit me as we are get-pushed partners this week :) You have a great sense of fun in many of your shots, so the push that has formed in my mind for you is 'fun with toys'. You can take this any direction you like, but a couple of suggestions is (obviously) that you could photograph your children having 'fun with toys' or you could have some fun of your own putting toys into little scenarios, for instance your lovely gate shot from this week would tell a different story if there was an abandoned toy on the path........does that get your brain kachinging?
@vickisfotos Aw, Vicki...thanks so much for the fav and sweet words!
@michaelelliott Thanks for that great compliment, Michael. I adored being out in the city some this week. I am normally stuck at home in suburbia. City shooting is awesome and so full of opportunity. Trying to get my hubby to agree to an NYC or Chicago trip for a meet up with the people there (or a massive one where we put the word out).
Thank you all so very much for your wonderful comments about this photo. This one really spoke to me and touched me and I am glad that you enjoyed it as well. Hope that your Easter was beautiful and joyous. Happy new week!
@violeta I need to get out on the street more. I don't live in the city, but out in the suburbs. It was so nice to get some time out there this week. Such an amazing place rich with photo ops. Heck, I should practice more in the burbs with candids. Like a dude mowing his lawn and such maybe. ;-)
@edie Thank you, my friend. I was so glad to capture this moment. Here I was going to just get the alley, but having the figure in it, really made the shot. Told a story. I hope to get better at capturing things like this. I guess that I need to get out more!
What a wonderful piece of street/candid photography.
@bpaquette Thanks so much for that, my friend!!:)
