Framing the Fountain by alophoto

Framing the Fountain

This is a shot of Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. As I was taking this shot through a cutout in a wall, a lady nearby said "What a good idea." I wonder if she followed suit.

Thanks so much for all of your great comments and support on my recent NYC trip photos. Yesterday's shot of the Brooklyn Bridge was on PP this morning. Wow! Thanks for helping put it there. Funny that I sat on that shot for awhile. I had so many to choose from and finally edited and went with it.

It's a new month! Yesterday I made a tough decision to turn down an offer for shooting someone's wedding reception (my sister had told them that I am a photographer and they wanted a quote). As much as I would love to be able to do that, I don't feel ready as far as camera knowledge and equipment go. It is an indoor event and I am not in my best element shooting indoors. I sure would hate to screw up the memories from someone's most important day. One day, I hope to be ready to feel confident enough to shoot events like that.
Lovely framing Amanda. I did a friends wedding and reception a few years ago and it was supposed to be outside which I was comfortable with until five minutes before the ceremony was due to start the heavens opened and we had a huge thunderstorm. Everything was moved indoors to a room with full length mirrors on one wall and full length windows on the opposite wall. It was a disaster for me and I am still surprised they are friends with me :)

Lovely photo Amanda yes I would feel the same way I would want the knowledge and experience behind me I am quite happy myself just taking the photos to post on 365 of any photo that my friends enjoy viewing .

@thirtysevenways Oh that sounds like a nightmare. If it were me, I'd not be your friend anymore. Kidding. But seriously, how awful. I was right to say I can't do it. Dang it!

@gerry Thank you, Gerry! Glad you relate.

@amandal It was pre digital. I would have more confidence now with digital but don't like shooting indoors.

@thirtysevenways Me either!

This is so lovely..perfect framing. What a fun time you had..your photos really show that!! The Brooklyn Bridge was highlighted on 60 minute last night. It really is quite an amazing piece of work. Your image is spectacular..well deserved PP!

Awesome fountain and framing. Good choice for you, I did the same. A friend asked me to shoot her wedding, and I said no. She's going to let me tag along for their wedding party shots and things, so I'm hoping to get some shots and some practice - but without the pressure!

I continue to be amazed at the fantastic images captured by you in that brief visit to NYC.

beautiful fountain and love your framing! and congrats for a the well deserved PP!

Very nice framing. The NYC gathering photos are all so varied and interesting. Can understand your wedding decision - very daunting if you dont feel 100% confidnent.

@tonydebont I went to capture the city in photos. So so glad that I succeeded. Thank you, Tony!

Excellent idea. We could use a little of that sun right now. Gloomy :(
Another great NYC shot Amanda.
July 1st, 2013
@adamj We are gloomy today, too. Last weekend was perfect weather. Though it could have been a tad cooler:). Thank you!

Great shot!

Nice. really draws the eye in to the statue.

gorgeous framing - I know how you feel about the wedding shoot. I did a small one at a registry office as a favour and it was terrifying and I had to borrow a second camera etc... not an area I want to venture in again anytime soon :)
July 1st, 2013
great pov. maybe soon you will be ready and confident to shoot a wedding.
July 1st, 2013
Very nice capture. You did walk a lot in Manhattan... wow.
I have taken many pictures at weddings, and the couples have said that they like them more than the ones of the official photographer; but I didn't have the pressure of being the only one. Tell them that you accept to be the "sous-photographer" (like a sous-chef), and it would be a great practice for you.

Wonderful image:)

I would probably do it for free-just for learning process and experience---:)
July 1st, 2013
@jodimuli Yes, but I would suck at it at this point. And they are not my friends. I'd do it for a friend. Thanks, man. If it were outdoors, I'd really consider it.

It was a great idea. Lovely shot.

Beautiful shot. Love the framing. I would have declined the wedding, too. Way to much pressure. I would hate to mess up someone's big day. I have thought it might be fun to ask to be the an extra photographer, just roaming around for candids and whatever strikes your fancy. Basically, a guest who takes lots of photos. Might be a fun way to learn in the setting without the pressure.

Yep, great framing. I too would have certainly have declined. As some of the others have suggested, perhaps go as the extra.

Beautifully framed! =) As i can say for myself, you never gonna be ready =))) wahahah =) I put it in other words, there is always gonna be that one first wedding or paid shoot (or actually a few of them, before you get comfortable). its the same with me , im so terrified i will screw up, i cant even think to go take pictures professionally =)

Thank you all for your comments on my framed fountain. Also thanks for your ideas to offer to go as a wing man or assistant photographer for free. I did offer my services in that regard. And if they take me up on it, I will probably get them a few good photos. And yes, we saw a ton and walked a bunch in my 2 days in the city. Maybe saw half of Manhattan? Or close to it.

Wonderful to be offered the work but it is a huge responsibility (even though I'm positive you could have pulled it off ;o)) This is a great image. Love the framing from the wall xx

@psychographer Thanks for the vote of confidence. At this point the thought of it makes me queasy, though. Need more equipment and knowledge. I sure hope I can be a back up, though.

Such an elegant concept and beautifully executed.
