Menacing Industry

Took this snap of the Proctor & Gamble plant near Grays in Essex earlier this evening, Thought the heavy sky made the plant look quite intimidating, but once downloaded, it didn't look as good as I hoped so converted to B&W, cropped a little and darkened slightly to try for a more menacing feel.

And so to today's court room drama! Well, now it's over, I can tell all....it was a benefit fraud case. A lady had failed to declare her partner was living with her and working which meant she received £2000 in housing benefit towards her rent. She denied he was living with her.

It was shown in court (and NOT disputed by defence) the guy had 1) opened a joint bank a/c with her using the address at a time he 'wasn't' living there. 2) Used the address for payslips to be sent there 3) Registered with a Doctor from there. 4) Applied for a car loan from there 5) Registered for Sky TV, 6) Was the joint water bill payer and 7) (and most telling) on the very same day he was sacked from his job, she contacted the benefits office to say he had moved back in with her.

But defence said to the jury this was not sufficient prrof he lived with her...

Incredibly 10 of the 12 agreed and she was found innocent... Although all belived she did the fraud, they all said they were not 100% sure he was living there and thought more evidence was required... Me and the other guy argued with them for 3 hours but they didn't budge!
GREAT shot!

You did accomplish a menacing feel to your photo. Doom and Gloom.
I am with Freida, they did not do any surveilance to "catch" him in the act of coming and going?

Thanks guys - they couldn't do surveilance as the period in dispute was for the 6 months prior to her contacting the benefit office...

Nice picture Andy, I like power plant pictures because inspecting these plant is a side job of mine. How could you not get convicted, just one of you points should have proved her guilty.

I like this photo, It is very "moody"

As for the court case? well...people do do this kind of thing to "survive" I am not condoning benefit fraud, But how much more has it now cost the tax payer having to take her to court? and if she was found guilty, how much more would it of cost us? Just my opinion... Sorry :o(

This shot is awesome. Totally menacing as you so rightly say. Your court case make me think of 12 Angry Men, except in reverse!

Interesting about the court.... very strange!

Thanks guys - There is a belief that "cheating the system / bending the rules a little" over here, in the UK is an acceptable thing to do and not 'really' a crime... Well, seems 10 out the 12 jurors thought so....
