London's Getting Reddy by andycoleborn

London's Getting Reddy

I went out on the puddle hunt after work but as soon as I spotted this little scene I knew I had my shot for today...

Love all the red and pleased Mr City-Gent stayed where he was as I took a quick snap.. (this looks a bit dark on here compared to the original on my laptop!?!?!)

People around the world are going to get very familiar with the hideous creature seen here (no, not Mr City-Gent, but that thing on his left)... It's one of the Olympic mascots - either Wenlock or Mandeville - and whoever designed them needs shooting...

I'm guessing they are being installed across London as I spotted three in the space of 10 minutes...

As with everything connected with the Olympics it looks tacky and probably cost far too much. Is it really too late to stop this dreadful invasion and demand our money back?

LOL - that girl on the right needs a paint splash suit. I'm hoping that the Games don't involve too many disasters - so far you have to wonder long and hard about the logo, the mascots and that blooming awful music.

@wordpixman I think it may be!!

@wordpixman Oh I'm happy we've got the Olympics and really looking forward to the events, but agree so much connected with them is a farce and extremely tacky - from the logo to the mascots, from G4s to the Games lanes and iffy sponsership...!! And I'm dreading the opening ceremony.!!

@judithg haha - If I had PS I'd have made her bag red to balance that side of the pic a bit better :-)

@andycoleborn ... Just glad I don't live in London now. As you say, a farce ... too much taxpayers' money going into corrupt pockets and not delivering on their promises. Big business and organised sport at their very worst. Why can't people enjoy a bit of healthy recreation without making life a misery for those who have to foot the bill?

Ha ha - ace capture of a ghastly thing. With you totally on the Olympics - am totally behind them and have been looking forward to them, but agree on the tacky/farcical element - this policing of the Olympic brand for one thing - businesses not allowed to use the word 'summer' - you couldn't make it up ...

Oh how I wish I could be there! Your red-splashed picture hints of the building excitement!

Got to bring summer to the city somehow, the weather is getting into the Olympic spirit!!
July 16th, 2012
Like the pov and city gent's body language! Add to the tacky list the uniforms of the Olympic volunteers (my husband is one),,, they are purple, orange and red, cheap fabrics and badly fitting!! (But he is soooo excited and proud, so good luck to him and the 150+ hours he is giving of his time!)

Ok... That is quite possibly the most horrific mascot ever! Perhaps a Teli-Tubby woulda' been better? Hell, Barney woulda' even cut it. Dude in the suit is AWESOME! I love Mr. Fancypants and his umbrella. What about the sign on the bus? LAY THE FAVORITE?! Perfect! Bullseye here, big boy!!

lots of action and lots of reds here Andy.....hope you can cope with the Olympic Road Lanes....Chris Evans had a rant on the radio this morning !
July 16th, 2012
well I think all those great 'suits' needed a splash of colour don't you?
July 16th, 2012
love it, lots going on, the gent with the brolly makes it for me. no doubt we'll get some puddle time on thurs!

Yeh, all the people in dark suits and the lady there with one foot just about to touch the ground make this shot pretty cool and dynamic.
The girl's hand is bandaged? Or is it a trendy thing in London....
July 17th, 2012
@viranod thanks mate... just checked the original and she's wearing a 3/4 length sleeve jacket thing and thinks it's a white top underneath.. tho could be a bandage but not really sure...

@well it is summer so yeah, reckon so... Tower Bridge has a couple of openings on Thurs evening so we could always go there...
July 17th, 2012

July 18th, 2012
