Barak Building by ankers70

Barak Building

View up Swanston Street towards The University of Melbourne from RMIT's Swanston Academic Building (Building 80) with City Baths on RHS and the Barak Building on the LHS sporting the face of Aboriginal leader and activist William Barak (1823-4–1903).

The Barak Building—controversial on many fronts—was designed by ARM (Ashton Raggart McDougall) Architecture and unveiled in 2015. ARM also designed a number of buildings along Swanston Street including several for RMIT.

My photo doesn't really do it justice as it's hard to photograph the building close up because the face image disappears and, from a distance, other buildings impede the view. It is a building that is best viewed by walking from the Shrine of Remembrance along St Kilda Road and up Swanston Street, watching the changes in different lights and from different angles.

After careful observation, the face can be noticed on the left tower block. Skillful shot.

Thankyou. Sometimes, especially close up, it is nearly impossible to see the face.
