Chaffey Steam Engine and Tangye Pumps inside the Psyche Bend Pumping Station, Kings Billabong, Irymple, Victoria. Built in 1890 it was part of the Chaffey Brothers scheme for irrigating the orchards and vineyards of the developing Mildura irrigation colony. The Murray River provided the life giving water but it can also destroy as happened again late last year and into 2023.
If you look at the sign at the very back of the building, you will see a brown line just under the words 'Steam Preservation Society'. That's where the floodwaters of the 2022-23 floods rose to. Since then, there's been a lot of work here for the Steam Preservation Society, all volunteers, to get the Pump Station back to the way it looks in this photo. dedicated volunteers. It was a mess after the floods as it sat in oily water for some months before the waters receded enough for access.
