Oh, what a tangled web we weave . . .

What I call 'facadism' happening in Bourke St, Melbourne, where only the facade of historic buildings retained while behind is a often a modern tower. It's a deceptive practice often resulting in poor design and a pretence of conservation.

Taken a few days ago on a rare sunny day. We're not getting many at the moment as winter gains pace.
Now that’s what I call a construction site.

I have to agree with you Suzanne - the whole idea of just saving the exterior front wall is an opt-out to allow developers to gradually remove the history from a city. Money talks....

A nice shot of a not so nice practice

It happens very often in some historical towns where the facade of historical buildings remains only.

That's too bad that the construction doesn't do the preservation justice. I would think we're smart enough to make those things work- but making more money is often the cause of shoddy craftsmanship. Still makes a good shot.

It is sad indeed, but it gave you a most wonderful photo op.

Unfortunately, many such old buildings have been "renovated" in Budapest as well!!
