The old rail bridge (now heritage listed) spanning the Wannon River at Cavendish. The rail line between Hamilton and Horsham used to go through Cavendish. I grew up near there, and when I was a child, we used to run across the rail bridge playing chicken with the train. Now, the ends of the old trestle bridge have been removed to prevent access for children.
I am sure that this made a fun place to play. Health and Safety was never so much of a concern then I guess. What a shame it can no longer be crossed. Looks rather atmospheric with that bit of mist on the water.
Good shot- it has a very mysterious sort of feel with the ends missing. A thriller could take place here even though it looks somewhat subdued. Nice catch!
It does have a mysterious feel. According to legend, bunyips once lived in the rivers, lakes and swamps of Australia. Their howls carried through the night air, making people afraid to enter the water. Bunyips prowled at night hunting for women and children to eat. The local pub at Cavendish is called 'The Bunyip'. @olivetreeann
Hi Suzanne - we've come up here from The Great Ocean Road, Warnambool,The Grampians and via the Silo Trail. So many wonderful areas - especially the rugged coast along the Ocean Road, and at Warnambool and the awesome walks in The Grampians. We're heading down to Eucha and Rutherglen next. And we were very excited to see Lake Tyrrell under two completely different conditions - magic colours! Thanks for your interest. Cheers Rob
Thankyou. It's a beautiful river. @phil_howcroft
I don't think health and safety came into it at all and had our parents known our health and safety might have been under threat!! @helenhall
Thankyou. Lake Tyrrell is beautiful. Are you heading further south into the Western District? It's a beautiful part of the world. @robz
Thankyou @joansmor
Many thanks. @Dawn
