Australian Stingless Bees -1 by annied

Australian Stingless Bees -1

I thought it was tough trying to photograph honey bees - these little guys proved quite a challenge - They are tiny native Australian stingless bees measuring only 4 mm long. I don't have a macro so the sharpness and clarity are not great but I was still happy with the shots because I think the capture the essence of these tiny bees. In this photo the one flying has pollen on his feet - I was tickled when I saw these even though it isn't the perfect shot. another image is here http://365project.org/annied/the-ones-i-left/2013-06-10 if you have the time :)
P.S I framed them like this because it seemed to enhance the bees better

Great framing choice -- give the bees the main focus by bringing our eye into the frame and contrasting them with the golden/yellow tones. Nice composition.

@taffy I'm pleased you like it - because they are so small and were hard for me to capture I tried a few ways to make them stand out - they really are tiny lol

Beautiful capture and framing! I tried taking a photo of some small fast bees and had no luck at all. Well done!

@jesperani @kathyladley @grannysue @kareenking thank you - it was quite a challenge for me but it was fun :)

You have to love the industrious bees. I think you have caught their busy essence here even without the macro.

@sabresun thanks Matt - I was pleased with the capture for that reason even though the 'quality' isn't fabulous

I am all for stingless since I am allergic! :)

@luvmynynix - they are so small you wouldn't even know they were bees at first - I only recognised them because they have a hive in the Backyard to Bush section at Taronga Zoo with information about them - that was the first time I had ever seen one - oh a bee allergy must be a worry at times

@annied It's MUCH better now than when I was young (I think it is true that you grow out of some allergies)...but I am still careful!!

I love the framing! It looks like a painting :-)

I agree with you! Sometimes the essance of the photo is more important then the focus!! Great, Great Shot! :)
