I have a couple of weeks easier and then the rest of the month full on so I am going with the theme Things Aussie for this month - that way I can draw on images that I have when times get tough!
This week is Aussie fauna!
Along with the Tassie Devil wombats are another of my favourite Aussie mammals.
We have 3 species of wombats
-Bare-nosed or Common Wombat
-Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat
-Northern hairy-nosed wombat
They’re one of the largest burrowing mammals in the world. They normally waddle but can run 40km/h.
Ringo is a Bare-nosed wombat. Wombats are the koala’s closest living relative.
Two of the three species of wombat occur in NSW: the Bare-nosed and Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat. The Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat is presumed extinct in N.S.W and listed as critically endangered in QLD.
oh wow I've yet to see a wombat in the wild this is wonderful that you could find one wild! being the closest cousin to the koala I have a soft spot for them, but they are quite huge and not only can they run but they can bowl you over too! not that it's likely to happen in the wild, but don't startle one :) beautiful image and fav
@koalagardens I am yet to see one in the wild also - aside from the ones hit by cars on the roadside :(- Ringo is a rescue wombat and was hand-raised - and yes they can be quite formidable!
@yrhenwr cuddly only when they're babies - grown up they are tanks with big teeth and sharp claws lol - he could bowl you over if you weren't prepared 😊
