Old Dubbo Gaol by annied

Old Dubbo Gaol

The Old Dubbo Gaol was a courthouse lockup in 1847, was proclaimed an official Gaol in 1859 and closed operations as a penal institution in 1966. The Old Dubbo Gaol officially re-opened as a tourist attraction in 1974, and is now completely restored and home to a large display of animatronics and holographic displays which provide a realistic and fascinating insight into a bygone era of barbaric prison life.

Say " I - Aye - Ay - eye " if you want to see me in the stocks

In Melbourne, one of the gaols has been turned into a housing estate! Maybe they should do the same for Dubbo as it looks like a wonderful piece of architecture!

@gigiflower Yeah, that was Pentridge. I heard that they had to have some energy healer come in to clean up all the murky energy from the place. In a few decades, I guess nobody will even remember it was a gaol. . ?

This looks surprisingly modern to me Annie. I've been to Dubbo several times, but never to the gaol.

@tabbycat the wall on the right is a modern wall - in front is the entry to the gaol and inside is old

@gigiflower @tabbycat I am not sure you could remove the ghosts and strange energy

@tabbycat YES! I think you are right.........it certainly would be interesting to live there after all the nasty stuff that took place there! I think you can still do tours or have events there as well. Must think about visiting - I think there could be some good photo opportunities!

@tabbycat @gigiflower the modern wasn't added as such - the gaol is in the middle of Dubbo city so to speak - the modern has grown up around it and the gaol has been preserved - it is very interesting and unusual too

Fantastic shot and great for the theme, but Dubbo gaol really gives me the shivers. I am sure I must have been in gaol in a previous life ha ha.
