My husband and I have lately been binge watching the TV series "A Handmaids Tale". It's without a doubt one of the best TV series that I have ever seen - for me it's right up there next to "Vikings" and "Game of Thones" - and it's definitely the most eerie TV series, that I have ever seen.
It's based on a novel by Margaret Atwood by the same name, and the story takes place in a dystopian and totalitarian not-so-distant future in what was formerly the United States now Gilead. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalistic regime and their militarized "return to traditional patriarchal values".
I was not prepared of how hard this story actually hit me... it's overwealming and intense but at the same time very subtle and highly refined. The acting is outstanding, and I've actually caught myself a couple of times thinking "how did everything go so wrong in that short period of time" having to remind myself that this is just fiction :-D. It's very captivating - and very scary, the kind of scary without blood spatter and gory details... and maybe that's actually the most scary kind of scary...
Well - if you haven't yet had the chance to watch "A Handmaid's Tale", I strongly recommend it :-).
P.S.:
Today's photo is of the petals of a Phalaenopsis orchid. We have three of these orchids in our living room, and they have been generously flowering all through summer. Today when I got home from work, I noticed that one of the flowers had fallen off. As I picked it up and slowly swirled it between my fingers, the sight of the soft white petals suddenly reminded me of something essential from the TV series - and if you have watched the TV series - then maybe you will think of it too :-)...
I don't watch a lot of t.v.,but I like your story,we have an orchid which was given to us,it just has four leaves, will have to read up how to tend them.
