St Eata -- the Norman Doorway in the tower

St Eata 's Church Atcham, Shropshire -originally a Saxon church (1075) has been added to & repaired till present day .
Today ,it is an active Anglican Parish Church. The Church is open daily during daylight hours and services are held every Sunday Morning They have their annual fete to help with maintenance of the Church & grounds ,

What a lovely capture. The arches and lines and colors are so wonderful. Love your composition and POV as well. Thanks for the story too....just hard to wrap my mind around the age of the church and I am so happy it is still be used today!

That is a stunning doorway Beryl...I wonder if anyone puts a garland of flowers over the arch for weddings, it would look wonderful!

@ivan @happypat @frankhymus Thank you all for your kind comments I love looking around Old Churches & graveyards - I haven't been inside for many a year -but remember it as being interesting -- shall have to have another trip there I have not witnessed it decorated for the weddings Pat, but often the wedding receptions are held in Thy Mytton & Mermaid which is next to the Church

@beryl Must be a Lancashire custom then Beryl but if there is a decent arch way over the church door we nearly always see it with a flower arch over for a wedding

@happypat Pat What I meant was That I had not been near this Church with a wedding taking place as it is tucked up a lane away from the main road . but they do have flower arches over doorways for a wedding around here too When I got married in our chapel in Mid Wales (a long time ago ) we had an archway of flowers over the double gate in front of the steps leading up to the door

What a wonderful old doorway, just makes me think of all the people who have come and gone through it over the centuries.
