Centre of Town

This may not be the exact geographical centre of Edmonton but it has been the main intersection in the city since its earliest times. Jasper Avenue and 101 Street has seen businesses here dating as far back as 1897 When a couple of general stores and fur trading businesses opened up. Later the Dominion Cigar company ran its business here and on July 2, 1929 the Canadian Bank of Commerce opened for business and is still going strong to this day.
It cost $500,000 to build and an extension was added in 1964. In 1984 a modern addition was added on to the west side of the building and renovations were done on the inside
Has an interesting history. Great shot and I see you got a blue sky day!!

Opening in July of '29 meant they were taking baby steps when the Big Crash occurred. That makes it even more remarkable that they have endured.
