A little bit of local history by bkbinthecity

A little bit of local history

So while I was reading the paper on the way to work today I read about this particular house located in the Highlands neighbourhood. This was the childhood home of Marshall McLuhan. Some of you may recognize the name. He was a Professor and Media Analyst. His ideas were definitely well ahead of his time. He taught about such concepts as a "global media village" and he used the phrase "The Medium is the Message".
This house was his home prior to the family moving to Winnipeg. Last year the City of Edmonton bought the house and today it is home to the Arts Habitat Council which trys to find places for aspiring writers and artists to develop there skills. They will be leasing out one of the three rooms for writers to use as an office and the garage will be turned into an Art Studio.
One of the interesting things to see were several family photos that have been framed and hung throughout the home.
After leaving and walking back to catch a bus I was taking a few more pictures of other homes in the area when the battery on my camera died. Melody took that as sign that it was time to go home but not before stopping off at Starbucks for a little treat and something to drink.
Well it is Friday so that means it is time to wish everyone a wonderful weekend
Cool shot
