So today I found myself running errands and ended up taking no pictures, I know shame on me, so I went back through some of my older pics and I decided that I would post this one. I had almost posted it on the day I took it but went with something else.
This is the James Cornwall Residence. It is nicknamed The Villa. Colonel James Kennedy Cornwall built this house in 1910 with money he had made by being involved in various ventures.
It is amazing that he had the money to build it due to the fact that he liked to take risks and went bankrupt on more than one occasion. It is 10,000 square feet and it included every conceivable luxury of the day at the time it was built.
The family enjoyed this home for 16 years before financial problems arose again and it was foreclosed on in 1926.
Thankfully It is still around and being enjoyed as a private residence to this day
i'm sure whoever lives there now would've had the plumbing fixed to today's standards. it's a beautiful house, but it's too big for cleaning. i'd need several peeps to clean it for me. very nice find and capture, brian.
What a beautiful home. Too bad they had to give it up but nice someone lives in it today. I cannot imagine living in a home so large. It must be amazing inside.
It reminds me of the Toll House Cookie house with its' chocolate stripes. The Colonel sounds like a man who lived on the edge; but it must have paid off because he left a beautiful home. How nice it's still around to appreciate. Wonderful photograph and story!
