The other day I was at the library looking up my Dad's name in a copy of Henderson's Directory. These were I suppose a forerunner to today's telephone books. They would list the person's name and give the address they lived at and also their occupation.
This building is where my parents lived when they first got married in 1959.
There are two large suites on the second floor and they lived on the one at the back looking to the west.
When I showed this picture to my Mom she said that the building has not changed. The door on the far right was the entrance to the suites. The only thing that is different today would be the Chinese travel agency. Back in 1959 it was a small grocery store.
I also like genealogy. It is so interesting to learn. I think it's wonderful that you found this place and took a picture of it to share with your mother. What a wonderful memory you have created of this historical place.
How wonderful to take a photo to share with your Mom with so little change in so many years and so many memories. Wonderful photo, Brian. I found genealogy so interesting until my Dad found out he was adopted by his Aunt and her husband who raised him as their first born. When she passed away in 1991 the papers were found in her house as we figure she wanted him and his siblings to know along with family that did not know. So many twists and turns in life sometimes.
This is so cool. I just love finding old links to places my parents were or even now that I am 50 going back to where I was a newlywed or a child had that old history appeal
Wonderful that you found this. When we first moved to our town about 40 years ago, there was a small directory that the Women's Club produced with every family, including all the kids names. It was a great time!
I had thought about doing a shot of the apts. my parents first lived in. They've been refurbished now and don't look like they did when my parents lived there. This was a great idea!
How nice and nostalgic. Interesting image and family story. I hope your parents were very happy there as they started out in married life. Thank you for sharing.
@ivan Glad to share this one Ivan. They really did love this suite. The reason they moved was due to the fact that it was very hot during the summer and my older sister was born in the following summer and they were concerned about it being to hot for her
isn't that interesting? only the travel agency is new in the building. maybe you should've knocked on the door and asked to see the place. one could try, right? nice shot.
