So I was looking on a list of National Days and according to the list today is Grandparents Day. However, upon further research I discovered that it is actually the first Sunday after Labour Day which would have made it yesterday. So although I am a day late I put together this collage to pay tribute to my grandparents.
On the left are my Mother's parents who came to Canada in 1928 from Denmark. My Dad's parents were both born here in Canada. I never met my grandmother on my Mom's side or my grandfather on my Dad's side. However I do have great memories of my one grandfather and my one grandmother. These pictures in both cases were taken on their wedding days.
What a nice way to show tribute to them. I love old photographs. It makes me wonder what life was like for them at the time the photo was taken but also how much more difficult photos were to take back then.
How lovely!!! Isn't interesting how people posed for photo's back then? I am sure they had to be very still and were probably encouraged not to smile. I am sure they were happy but they looks so serious. All of the old photos are the same. Lovely couples and how nice of you to share them!
Fascinating photos! You are lucky to have them. I only knew one of my grandparents, but when I did a little family research I gained a new appreciation, especially for the courage of people who immigrated to new countries.
I love old photos and the stories behind them. What a great treasure! I have a lot of old family photos but none of my grandparents' weddings. I like how the clothing gives you somewhat of an historic time frame. Great collage!
i never had real grandparents, i used to latched on to someone else's grandparents when i was little. you certainly got your looks from the bigam side, didn't you?
@summerfield Definitely. Although for the first time I can remember I was standing next to my Mom and a lady asked me if the lady was my Mother because she felt I looked just like her
@psychographer I found out today that back then it took so much longer to actually take the photo that is one of the reasons why the seriousness to the photos
I have been sharing my scrapbook and stories of Denmark with my second graders as we study the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. I have such fond memories of my visit in 2005, the 200th anniversary of Andersen's birth. These are lovely portraits. I never knew any of my grandparents.
Wonderful pictures Brian...I love seeing old wedding shots.
I am similar to you...though I never knew my Grandmother on my Father's side or my Grandfather on my Mother's side!!
