Ahhh.... this man symbolises a lot for me, its how I met my other half, of who I move in with on Saturday... at least I know I like his music taste!
We met through a mutual love of Bauhaus, a post-punk band from 1978-1983. Bauhaus are now known as the godfathers of 'goth' music, something they deny and seem to embrace in equal amounts. Peter has just had a cameo in the latest Twilight film as a vampire, which is pretty goth! I loved Bauhaus as a teenager, drove all my friends nuts because I played their records so much. Something they still talk and tease me about now :-) And I also really like Love and Rockets, which was the group the other three formed after the split in the 80's, and they became very popular in America.
This is Peter Murphy, who the lead singer. Pic was taken in 2005, at the Scala, London, when he played his solo stuff. Shortly after this gig they reformed for a little while and thats when I met my sweetie. They lost a lot of old fans during that time, as they didnt seem all that pleased to be back and Peter said some awful conceited things during interviews and the band finally fell out once and for all. One of the concerts they played in London it all seemed to go to pot right on stage when one member staggered off the stage and never came back, tho Murphy tried to play more music on his own and sang David Bowies 'Bewlay Brothers' before he gave up too.
It was fun while it lasted! I also made friends with people who travelled far and wide for the concerts, Italy, America, Sweden to name a few.
I love the Scala venue in Kings Cross. Its very small (its a night club most of the time) but the lighting is always very low with no white light at all. But you get what you get, coz flash and gig photo's just dont look good!
Great shot and story to go with it. I can put "I'll Fall with your Knife" on repeat and listen to it all day. One of those songs that makes your stomach go all funny.
I loved both those bands as a teen in California listening to KROQ radio! And I even still have their music on my iPod. But I didn't recognize him in Eclipse! Great pic and great information!
What a great shot and story to go with it! I think it's what I love most about photography -- that so much of our lives are entwined with the shots we take. Nice one.
Great shot. Great write up. I was soooo influenced by Bowie/Lou Reed/Bolan etc. I loved Hunky Dory and rate it as one of Bowie's best. Is he touring or anything?
Love Bauhaus, never knew he was in the new twilight movie, seems very appropriate!
