Carl has been doing his 365 Project for almost 5 months, I've been following him since he joined and he has continued to impress with his obvious skill and creativity.
The Interview
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Well, lets see...in a nutshell I'm originally from Concord, Newhampshire. I grew up their with a love for the outdoors and freestyle sports.
After High school I did an 80 day National outdoor leadership school "NOLS" course and shortly after that I sailed a boat with two friends on a 28 day trip across the North Atlantic. "SCARY"!! I got home from that trip, thawed out and my sister Kari Rice flew back to NH and she and I took the train to California to go be whitewater raft guides outside Yosemite. So that was the cycle for many years, whitewater in the summer/ snowboard in Tahoe in the winter. Crazy adventures and in 97 I went to Africa and ran trips on the Zambezi river in Zimbabwe. In 1998 at the advice of my sister Kari, I embarked on a journey into the world of being a stuntman for motion pictures and at the present moment I live and work in Los Angeles.
What made you want to do the 365 Project?
O yes, 365 was my sister's fault, that would be Andrea Freeman. She loves it and said I should take a crack at it.
What camera do you shoot with? Would you recommend it?
At the moment, I have a Nikon D300 and yes, I would recommend it.
Hmmm... for the lens I would say nikons 50mm 1.8f, it cost 125 bucks, it's good for lowlight, potraits, and landscapes. You'll be fit with walking your focus. For an accessory I would say "tripod" for long exposures, self P's..
Is there a particular style or type of photography you enjoy the most? and why?
Well I'm pretty open to many styles and everything has it place. However, I love photo journalism and shots that expose the truth.
I also Love action shots
Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph?
O yes for sure. To go to the gulf coast and shoot what is happening would be a great opportunity.
As far as people, did you see the 2 year old smoking 2 packs a day. WTF....would love a shot of that...
Well my family.. sisters Andrea Freeman, Kari Rice, brother in law Rob Carey and beloved girlfriend Sharon Zadanoff they all post some pretty cool stuff.
