The Facebook Fiasco

=============== Update ===============

Facebook have deleted the new 365 App, along with the old, therefore, I give up, 2 apps deleted, thousands of users disappointed. Don't know what else I can do. :-(

====================================

To cut a long story short, we have a new Facebook app, get it here

I know many discussions have been started and there's lots of confusion so I thought I'd write this to clear up any further questions.

So last Friday I woke up to about a million emails informing me that the 365 Project facebook app had gone bye bye, lots of members had emailed me the good news, normally these things sort themselves out but I checked anyway and to my surprise, it actually wasn't there, and from what I could see, never had existed to begin with.

So where had it gone? Good question, one I immediately asked Facebook through their support forums and various forms designed so they never actually have to answer a question.

3 emails and 4 days later, I get an email telling me that the app had been deleted and that they would not put it back, no further detail or information as to why. They clearly don't seem to care that it had been up and running over a year and had almost 10,000 users.

I have therefore, set up a new 365 Project app (get it here) and fingers crossed they will resist deleting this one for the near future.

All this does however mean that you nice people will need to reconnect the two accounts, it's only 2 clicks, go on!

Again, sorry for any annoyance this has caused you. If you feel angry about this, feel free to harass Facebook. :-)

thank you for dealing with all of this hassle for us all. it must have been such a pain, but i for one appreciate it!

Thanks for the update. Facebook removed loads of applications about 6 months ago. They sent out notices to everyone that this was going to happen. My update was working fine until then. However, I figured out pretty quickly that I could just add my own link and have been doing that without difficulty.
posted April 19th, 2011
Hmmmm .... it looks like I'll be continuing to upload the link myself because I use the secured connections and the application is not secured.
posted April 19th, 2011
Thanks for all your hard work in getting this figured out! I figured it was a FB problem and not surprised that they didn't explain why.

@Scrivna

How about... a FB 'share' button on the image edit page or the page that appears just after uploading? I'd use that.

@Scrivna Thanks for all your efforts!!!

@Scrivna Thanks for working so hard to connect the 365 community to Facebook.

Since they deleted the second app, I personally think it's time for the 365 community to voice our complaints to Facebook. Yes, almost 10,000 users were subscribed to the app--but I'm sure all of you, like me, had Facebook friends who followed your pictures every day through the app. So we have a really big, international community that is dissatisfied with Facebook's actions.

I searched throughout my account, but I can't seem to find contact information... does anybody know to get in contact with Facebook about user issues? Should we try to contact them individually, or all sign a petition on 365 and forward that to Facebook?

Can someone tell me how to fix the LIKE button for Facebook. It posts yesterdays photo with todays description and title. Very frustrating.

@curlyque87 I totally agree! This is nuts and it's time for some major complaining. I'll find that contact. GIve me some time....
posted April 19th, 2011
While you all are complaining ..... you can still post the link yourself. ;-)
posted April 19th, 2011
@dmortega is right. you guys can manually paste the link on your status message in facebook & select the correct thumbnail that should go with it.

as for facebook deleting the 365 linkage, i think they just dont care whether a "link" is actually already "up & running" & is being used by tons of people. i guess there's nothing can be done about it.

we be 10,000 Zuckerberg-haters out of his 600 million users then, i guess? haha!
posted April 19th, 2011
shame on them!!!
posted April 19th, 2011
When I click on the links ... it tells me "page not found"... Am I doing something wrong.... Help! @Scrivna
posted April 19th, 2011
The easiest thing is to put the link in yourself by pasting in the url as your status update. Don't think FB can delete that one.
posted April 19th, 2011
@dmortega my sentiments exactly.
posted April 19th, 2011
@lauriemct Use the 'share' button, and click on Facebook. A thumbnail will appear with your pics in it, Scroll through them to get the pic that matches the date and what you've written.
posted April 20th, 2011
Bummer! Oh well, thanks for trying! I can paste my link just as well as I can whine about it. Life goes on. =D
posted April 20th, 2011
If you think this is a bunch of junk and want to bombard Facebook with complaints simply on principle, feel free to click this link and either comment, and/or ask the same question I did. I figure it may get some attention if we do that. Or maybe not, but whatever. Made me feel better. :)

@Scrivna

Ross you are not alone, tons of apps disappear and sometimes show back-up...

I can think of one or two things... if someone was posting dirty photos on 365 and than linked to facebook, you could have a terms of service violation... if you are stealing our private infor... terms of service... ect...

I assume you tried the: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=dev_disable_appeal

if you think your app is fine... I am tearing through the new TOS as I have not read it in 2 years for FB... if I think of anything else I will let you know...

good luck Facebooks a bitch...

Welp, I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned ~ copy, paste in link and move on... lol. Although, a share button after the upload would be useful - for Twitter/Facebook/etc.

does 365project have an rss feed? I think we can use the Network Blogs app if they have.
posted April 22nd, 2011
@iampugeda thanks for the idea! :)

i tried this other facebook app too: http://apps.facebook.com/rssgraffiti

seems it's easier to configure and you're not forced to choose/use pre-set feeds as part of the setup process.
posted April 22nd, 2011
btw, if anyone's interested in trying out rssgraffiti, the rss url can be copied from the "Subscribe to RSS feed" link at the bottom of the right-hand-side box (further below under your tags)

posted April 28th, 2011
Any chance of trying it again? The automatic Facebook post was one of the primary reasons I decided to go with 365Project over other places. I know I can manually post, but it is just another step to remember.

Dear Ross,
Thank you for your efforts but for some odd reason Facebook app doesn't work with 365 project. So weird! Perhaps we should sign a virtual petition?
posted April 29th, 2011
@amblnc38 I think that is because they make $ selling stuff on those applications... Facebook is getting to big for its britches!
posted May 1st, 2011
Not working for me. Facebook can't be serious. Are there other social networks that support the 365 project??
posted May 7th, 2011
your latest link doesn't work either. so bizarre!
posted May 7th, 2011
Thanks @stinkercat for the heads up on the rss graffiti app for Facebook. It's really annoying that the 365 app has been taken down but the rss feed seems to link up really well.

The only problem with using an rss app is that you can't currently specify separate privacy settings for your rss posts, which means you have to let your FB friends see everything on your wall (including your photo stream) or nothing, which is quite frustrating.
posted May 9th, 2011
Is there any work being done to get an app back on FB!? I loved sharing my pics with friends on FB who aren't on this site! I am eagerly waiting to a solution to this problem!
posted May 9th, 2011
None of those links work!
posted May 18th, 2011
This is typical Facebook....they never listen to what the users are saying and Facebook is more and more becoming a pain in the butt. It is still good for networking, but their constant meddling with the applications, privacy and other content makes it more of a key annoyance to people. Sharing individual pictures works just fine.....no worries about having an app.
