The Darss peninsula in East Germany on the Baltic coast offers rich feeding grounds and a well needed break for thousands and thousands of grey cranes on their journey from Scandinavia to the South for the winter. It's a wonderful spectacle to watch. Cranes feed on the corn grown on the fields and therefore aren't very popular with the farmers. The farmers now feed them with corn laid out in freshly harvested fields to minimise the damage.
