Iconic 'Stik' figures in Chichester. The poodle has been added later presumably by someone else.
Up early with F for quick toast and coffee/tea so that we could rush off to London Bridge to catch the train to Chichester. En route we picked up the sad news that Helen and Jane wouldn't be joining us because Helen had woken up with a heavy cold. Train carriage was freezing, no heating.
S met us at the station and drove us back for tea cakes and crumpets. Her and T haven't had the greatest start to the new year with S's mum being in hospital for a few weeks and a leak in the roof.
Walked to the excellent Pallant House Gallery (always punches well above its weight) for the Sussex Landscapes: Chalk Wood and Water exhibition. Superb varied selection of pieces - a few from their own collection but many loans from all over the country. Loads of fave artists: Constable, Ravilious, Piper, Nash, Sutherland, Goldsworthy, Hitchens - and some gorgeous prints and woodcuts from those less familiar - but all focusing on one of our most beautiful southern counties.
Late lunch after at vegetarian Café Paradiso before a quick nip into Lakeland and M&S - just in case you were looking for them as I was, they've renamed their midi knickers - they're now high-rise shorts...
Window man went round to the flat and, in bad news, has said he will need scaffolding to take out the crappy non-opening middle windows safely. So annoying.
3 good things
1. Our National Art Passes got us in half price. We mainly subscribe to donate to the arts, but always good to enjoy a discount.
2. Great food at Café Paradiso - vegetarian lasagne with salads and we couldn't resist the cakes: sticky ginger and Bakewell tart.
3. Found some entertaining James Bond-themed Charbonnel et Walker dry martini truffles massively reduced in Lakeland - will bring them into work as a colleague loves James Bond.
