My uncle Pekka died earlier today I just found out. He has been very ill with advanced cancer so it wasn't unexpected, and he had been in a lot of pain in these last weeks. Thankfully, he died peacefully with my auntie with him. But it's still so very sad, especially for my auntie and my two cousins Sofia and Karita.
I love this photo taken nearly 10 years ago on my last visit to Finland, of Pekka, me and my auntie Ritva outside my grandparents' old home in the country. My grandfather built this house and we stayed there several times on holiday as children - it was so novel for city kids - you got water from the well outside, and cooked on a huge range and washed in the sauna in the shed.
Earlier today, met up briefly with Alison T for a quick drink and a chat after work as she was in town. Weather still wet and dismal, hope you're not all flooded out.

Oh no that's very sad. Lovely sunny portrait of him and the family. Thanks for the drink. Good to see you. Got puddle shot and now on train eating pasty.
This is a photograph I am sure you will treasure even more in the days to come. Sad to hear of your loss. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
