Swift

30 Days Wild 2022 Day 14

Well my activities may well be limited somewhat since testing positive. I expect there's no reason, if symptoms continue to be mild, I can't go out for a walk locally as long as I don't go inside anywhere or close to others.

Today's theme was about looking after our swifts, martins and swallows. Well we house them every year - swifts nest in our eaves and have been doing so since before we moved in - which is truly miraculous.

I'm so excited that I actually managed to capture one - in the cloud top left, there is the tiny but unmistakeable shape of a soaring, squealing swift. There's probably no way you'll be able to see it ha ha. They truly are a wonder - eating, sleeping and mating on the wing - and only coming to land in their nests when looking after eggs/young.

Faint as anything https://365project.org/boxplayer/365-2022

I see swifts when out in Italy and boy are they fast! And I hope you get well swiftly 🙂

Is there a second one up there?

@wakelys yes I think you're right, there were about three wheeling around.

We see them most days but swallows are now very rare. Last year I only saw 2 swallows all spring and summer.

A beautiful sky shot! And, yes, I can make out one- not sure about the second one that Susan can see, though.

we have a swift street near us, we went on a notts wildlife talk about it last year in the rain, they didn't appear, although we had an engaging talk about how amazing they are

Between your caption and the comments others have left, I've now learned everything I know about swifts! Fascinating!

Nice sky

Lovely clouds. I think a walk, and fresh air is good for you. It is easy to stay away from other while outside.
