Wind farm by busylady

Wind farm

It's been a beautiful sunny day today so I've been over to Gravely to view the wind farm which is being built on Cotton Farm. There is an action group comprising of residents from local villages who are against the wind farm. Personally I'm not against winds farms but I have to say they are quite close to the houses at one end of the village. The government have overturned protests made by local campaigners and at present there are 8 wind turbines being erected. According to the website http://www.stopthewindfarm.org.uk/ noise monitoring equipment is being installed to make sure they comply with acceptable noise level guidelines.
Well I'm all in favour - got to be really since its my area of research althoough we haven't yet got into noise monitoring. They are quite elegant I think and you got a great reflection. fav!

I love these elegant kinetic sculptures and the sound of them if you are fortuinate to get close enough, is very relaxing, bu protesters will protest about anything that will gain them a bit of publicity. Pathetic really; perhaps they would prefer to live in a world devoid of energy sources because we've dug 'em all up and burnt 'em without offering any replacement!

Nice picture though.

I really like them - I think they are a potential design icon, it is just such a shame so many people disagree!

A beautiful shot of these huge machines, and the great reflection. I must confess that I'm not a fan of them. Some make a noise that is so deep that you can feel it. The glint of light off the blades can be annoying too. I'm also not convinced how useful they are. The coldest days are on winter days with high pressure, so no wind to turn them at the time when their energy generation would be most useful. That's enough of a rant! - but I think your shot is wonderful!

Very nice! I know a lot of people dislike wind farms but I find them quite captivating! A fav for me :)

@if1 New designs have been developed to avoid the low thudding noise which comes from modulation so that should be a decreasing problem. They are useful - we don't come close to meeting our baseload electricity needs using renewable energy at any point in the year before you even get into space heating. They might not be popular but onshore turbines are one of the lowest carbon options except for nuclear.

Sorry judith - you post a turbine you get controversy!

@fueast That's OK, I expected controversy. I fully support windfarms, but I'm not sure I'd want my house to be that close. Apparently they have already experienced problems with selling their houses. That may of course be down to people who are badly informed. I bow to your superior knowledge!

Lovely capture of the wind farm ... fab reflection.
I shall keep out of the controversy side of things though! lol :)

I love the reflection you caught here and I agree they are quite elegant - but it would be so much more efficient to have nuclear power.

Very cool! Fantastic composition and I love the reflections!

wind farms are sure popping up every where. great capture.

Super shot,love the reflections!!

@janturnbull Not really - wind and hydro are the lowest carbon energy sources, although agreed nuclear would be preferable to most of what we use at the moment! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life-cycle_greenhouse-gas_emissions_of_energy_sources

Sorry Judith I had to come back to meddle.... The polar bear documentary and the aussie wild fires have really got me going this week...

whenever i see a wind turbine i am amazed by the beauty and elegance they portray and they are wonderful feats of engineering.. ...modern day windmills in my eyes :)

A gr8 pic judith and quite thought provoking

Great capture, and I would for one rather live by a wind farm than a nuclear plant
